Shane Richards was performing like a #1 overall pick until his injury. O line has not been the same since he left.

BJ Byrd has made the team IMO. Better than Haydel, Phillips, Ambles IMO

He’s not better than Ambles and you can’t say he’s better than Phillips based on 2nd half performances in pre season. But he will make the team at leas on the practice roster to start. Ambles opens up things for other receivers while still putting up good numbers. It’s not all about individual numbers that lead to success.

Byrd has that “IT” factor more so over the others. I know it’s preseason but he could be a future #1 and become a Geno Lewis type player. Only 23 too.
    Looks to have big upside.

The offense looked good with Kelly in there.

The injury to Richards is concerning given that Tate and Cage are already hurt. Will they have to move Hunter to LT if Richards is out long-term?

Too many busts in the secondary this pre-season. I know Coach Mace doesn't like to show much in these games.

Not worried about the results. Remember Argos went 2-0 in 2019 pre-season and looked quite good in doing so. I think it's actually a good thing they have a week 1 bye. Get their nicked up players healthy.

Nothing, really. I had heard his name a lot surrounding his good play in the Grey Cup, but I guess I never saw him on the field. In my head, he was a black guy lol so that was the thought I had when I saw him in the second quarter. Made me laugh, so I posted it.

    Backup quarterbacks

I didn't think any of the backup quarterback candidates distinguished themselves. I was hoping for a good showing for Holmes, but while he made a couple of nice throws, he also made some inaccurate ones. Surely they won't keep 4 QBs on the roster and it will be interesting to see who gets cut. Maybe there will be someone from some other team that looks to have more potential.

He did look good, which was very surprising (to me, at least) in view of how wretched he was last season. I would be thrilled if he has turned the corner and become a starting-calibre tackle, but will need more convincing than his performance against Ottawa's second-stringers.

IMO Holmes is done, and Argos will be looking to see who becomes available from other teams. Ottawa's fourth-stringer who played most of last night's game looked very good, but I imagine he's not becoming available, especially if Masoli starts the year on IR.

Holmes apparently should have had a leg up on Dukes and Scott but was easily the weakest of the three in the preseason so I suspect he will be cut.
Kelly looks good and will have his ups and downs this season but that’s part of the process as he gains experience.
Overall the Argonauts QB depth and lack of experience is very concerning.
It boggles my mind that O’Connor is still unsigned, I would feel much better with the likes of him at #2 and either Dukes or Scott learning the Canadian game for a year.
The secondary was a mess last night but they will get that figured out, would like to know why Richardson hasn’t signed?

It was kind of telling that Holmes didn't get reps until late in the 4th quarter. I don't know how many practices the team had between Saturday and yesterday, but the possibility could be that he didn't look good in practice those couple of days either.

On the whole, a very disappointing game. Some good parts but a lots of bad parts.
    Good:
.Kelly is an outstanding athlete. If he plays to his potential and does not get injured he could be one of the best QBs in the league. He has a great arm, is mobile and sees the whole field.

.Byrd is a keeper. Extremely quick and with excellent acceleration. He will probably start as the 5th receiver but could end up as the number 2 or 3 receiver. He could provide the team with the deep threat, the team has been missing.

.The team has depth on the OL and is going to need it. The OL for the opening game is likely to be Hunter and Allen at OT, Nicastro and Bladek OG and Ciraco at C. Richards finally showed good form and could be the teams RT if he injury is not too serious.

    Bad:
.The defensive secondary was terrible. Most of the rookies looked like they did not belong in this league. Stiggers may be a good athlete but needs a good year of experience as a backup before he can be a starter. When Ottawa's 3rd and 4th QB can pick the defensive secondary apart like they did, then you know we have problems. Washington looked alright on occasion but he missed a tackle he should have made. The rumour is Richardson (who the team could really use) priced himself out of the market. Hopefully the team can work something out with him.

The backup QBs are a long way from ever being starters. Scott is the best of the lot but if he has to take over from Kelly, the team is in trouble. Dukes needs a year on the practice roster and might develop into a capable QB but not this year. I'm not sure where the team will be able to find a capable backup but Prukop might be available. Last night, Ottawa's 3rd and 4th QBs looked far better than the Argo's backups. We better hope Kelly stays healthy.

Anyone know where a fan would find stats for preseason games? I can’t find anything on CFL.ca

I just read from John Hodge that the stats issue should be corrected for week 1 of the regular season.

Go to TSN.CA. They have the box scores up for all games.

Do we know the nature of Tate's and Cage's injuries? Is Tate still recovering from the injury he suffered last season?

The Argos played very vanilla in these preseason games for sure.

What a joke the CFL's site is for not having accurate, current stats, ALL THE TIME.

Hope they don't screw up and replace the stats and game play by play roll that was good last season.
