    Argos President Situation

I am only posting this gage opinions of Argo fans. TFC has not been living up to expectations to say the least this season and they continue to tank. Recently their HC was relieved of his duties.

My question is this: If MLSE replaces Bill Manning as President of that Football Club, does he remain Argos president or does the new TFC President (most likely a Euro football executive) take over the reigns of the Argos as well?

I’m going to guess that Manning wouldn’t want to stick around if they removed his TFC title but offered him the Argos gig.

MLSE's future management alignment will depend on other factors.Toronto is considered a favored expansion candidate for the WNBA/NWSL.
We will get those answers in the next 6-8 months. The manner in which this affects MLSE's CFL project is yet to be determined.

I had forgotten about potential NWSL expansion into Toronto. Fewer prime dates for the Argos at BMO is in the offing.

I cannot imagine a scenario in which Manning is ousted from his TFC duties but stays on as Argo president. That would be equally unpalatable for the org and for him. To me the only relevant question is, would the Argos finally get their own CEO if MLSE brings in someone else to run TFC. Hopefully they would, but it's impossible to predict any of this (including Manning's future) with the upheaval happening at the ownership level right now, and no overall CEO in place.

The ideal situation is for Pinball to be promoted to President and Vince Magri to be named General Manager. I think Magri is too important to have walk for a General Manager job and he's basically in that role (albeit without the title). If Pinball does get promoted to President then MLSE would likely need to hire a Vice-President to oversee the business operations as a whole.

Would be nice if we could get a dedicated President independent of the soccer team. Think president should have CFL experience or be CFL knowledgeable ( things like playing Sask in Halifax really hurts us.) ..As usual I am out Lier ... I think President should be head down in spread sheets and business' meetings. I think this would be a waste of PINBALL's skills and his charity efforts. To be fair to Mr Manning I think we are moving slowly in the right direction but I think sooner we get closer to profitability the better.

As I watched the replay of the game, I noticed John Murphy on the side line. I have not seen anything formal of his return to the team, so they must be keeping it quiet. Let's be honest, Pinball already is the President of the team, without the title. I don't think he carries the duties of GM that most GM's do. Magri is basically the GM. As long as he's paid GM money, I don't think you have to worry about him leaving for an official title.

Now here is a suggestion--if Manning is removed as president of TFC/Argos , let's have Pinball appointed as president in his place---for both Argos and TFC. OK, that was said tongue in cheek. But could you just imagine the screams of indignation from TFC fans. Which makes the point that both teams need their own president, who has only one priority --the single mindedness for making the team a success on and off the field (or pitch).

But his focus has been much more on the GM side of things because he has assembled the team you mentioned and overseen them and closed deals with players. It is important he be given the formal title and have his responsibilities as President. His care, focus and expertise will then be brought to bear on a real business plan, focused on filling that stadium and rebuilding the image and brand of the Argos in Toronto. I have no doubt whatsoever that Michael Clemons will achieve that if allowed to do so. He has achieved greatness at every endeavor he has set his mind to and this would be no different.

Given that Rogers and Bell are apparently planning to challenge Tanenbaum's intention to sell part of his stake to OMERS, I think it's a pretty safe bet that the leadership of the Argos (and TFC, for that matter) is way down the corporate priority list for the time being.

I think Bell and Rogers have right of first refusal. How else could they challenge the sale?

Great as always. Another way to look at it....the Argos are so insignificant to MLSE changing Argo leadership means absolutely nothing in terms of MLSE value etc. They could do that with an email and nobody would care. Media wouldn't care. My wishful thinking. The Argos are so off the radar at Mlse that won't happen. Damn shame. This team will be incredible on the field.

Given that the proposed Tanenbaum/OMERS deal values MLSE at $8 billion, it is 100% true that the Argos are insignificant to this corporate situation.

Interesting that the Argos who are generally considered by their detractors a pimple on MLSE’s ass are currently their best run and most successful on field franchise, who’d a thunk it?
