R.I.P. Bobby Baun
Leaf defenceman Bobby Baun has passed away. He is famous for scoring the winning goal that enabled the Leafs to tie the the 1964 Stanley Cup series 3-3 before going on to win the Cup in the seventh game. He also played five years with a broken neck that he didn't know he had. He won the Cup in 62, 63, 64, and 67, the last time the Leafs won the Cup. Baun also had the courage to tell Gordie Howe when he became a Red Wing that Howe's trust in Detroit management to pay him fairly meant he was getting far less than Baun in an era when Detroit was central in breaking the first player's hockey union and had been sending even great players to the minors in the 1950s for not just accepting what management offered them.
