1. Some notes about last night's Argos win over Ottawa. The defence came up with NINE sacks last night to tie a team record for most in a game, set in 1984 in Ottawa. They now have 63 sacks, breaking the Argo record of 61, set in 1988. (CFL has kept sack stats since 1980).

2. With 64 sacks for and just 15 given up, the team is at +49 in the sack differential category. The team record is +30, set in 1997. The league record is +47, set by Hamilton in 1988. The Argos can also set a team record for fewest sacks allowed. The '96 Argos allowed just 18.

3. Javon Leake set an Argo record last night. He now has 1,080 punt return yards this year, 10 more than Michael "Pinball" Clemons had in 1997.

4. Boris Bede went 6/6 on his field goal attempts, one shy of the team record. Lance Chomyc kicked 7 in a game twice, while Noel Prefontaine and Justin Medlock each did it once. Bede joins Lirim Hajrullahu has the only other Argo kicker to have 6 in a game.

5. At 14-2, the Argos are now just one win away from tying the team record for most wins in a season. The '96 and '97 Argos each went 15-3. The 1988 team was 14-4. The CFL record for wins in a season is 16, set by Edmonton in 1989.

6. DaVaris Daniels had 141 receiving yards on Saturday, giving him 925 on the year. That's a career high for the 7-year CFL veteran. He had a TD catch last night giving him 8 on the season, one shy of his personal best.

7. Ryan Dinwiddie is now 34-14 as a head coach. He is one win away from tying Lew Hayman for 6th place on the team's list of career wins by a head coach. Bob O'Billovich had 89. Dinwiddie's .708 winning percentage is fourth on the Argo list & the best since any Argo coach post 1921.

8. Dinwiddie has coached the Argos to 3 regular season division titles. O'Billovich is the only other Argo coach to have done that, as he won the East five times. Hayman, Clemons and Don Matthews did it twice each.

Going into the season I would hav ‘em ever imagined this team being one of the best. Not to take some credit away but this may be one of the weakest CFL seasons. Season was already over by labour day.

the low sacks-given-up number from 1996 had a lot to do with who was at QB. Flutie had that spidey-sense to know when things were breaking down, and the legs to take off and get himself out of a jam.
Yes the Argos were also very smart in 1996 when they got Doug, to know the first thing to do, with a prize QB like him, was put a strong O-line in place and protect him.
Much credit goes to Flutie himself for keeping that sack total below what it likely should have been.
Argos had already gone thru the Dunigan scenario, another awesome QB acquisition, who then got so beat up he missed 20 starts in two years here.

If I look back at a memorable season like 1983, this season seems similar to that. I don't think it's a particularly weak CFL season and two-thirds of the games have been decided in the final three minutes. I do think that the Argos are particularly well-built and strong though.

This has been a special season. Setting a record for most wins ever by an Argos team would make it even more special for an old man like me. At this point I’m optimistic we can do it even with mostly backups in the lineup.
