    Injury List

Now that the final depth chart is out, here is a list of Argos who were placed on the six-game injury list this year. For every full (six-game) stint on the list, the player's salary comes off the SMS books. I don't know how shorter stints at the end of the season (when there are fewer than six games left on the schedule) are handled, but I imagine teams get to pro-rate the saving, i.e. a guy who is on the six-game for games 12-17 and again for game 18 would result in a seven-game saving.

    Daniel 7 games (6 + final 1)
    Amos 9 games (6 + final 3)
    Muamba 18 games (6 + 6 + 6)
    Ambles 6 games
    Gittens 7 games (6 + final 1)
    Priester 6 games
    Nichols 6 games
    Hagerty 15 games (6 + 6 + final 3)
    Haggerty 6 games
    Harris 6 games
    Carnell 18 games (6 + 6 + 6)
    Giffen 6 games
    Bladek 18 games (6 + 6 + 6)
    Richards 6 games
    Nield 6 games
    Johnson 5 games (final 5)
    Brinkman 6 games

If my assumption about how partial stints are treated is correct, Argos were able to remove 151 game cheques from SMS accounting.

During the season, the following guys were listed on the six but served less than six games so their salaries must be accounted for. These were presumably cases where an injury seemed long-term at first, but the player healed quicker than expected:

    Adeboboye 1 game
    Priester 2 games
    Marion 2 games

The following guys served at least one stint on the one-game IL:

    Williams 4 games: 3+1
    Oakman 3 games: 1+1+1
    Peters 5 games: 1+1+3
    Orimalade 1 game
    Bede 1 game
    McFadden 3 games: 1+1+1
    Priester 3 games
    Leake 1 game
    Ouellette 3 games: 1+1+1
    Sankoh 3 games
    Sutton 2 games
    Harry 1 game
    Stiggers 1 game
    McManis 2 games: 1+1
    Kwamou 1 game
    Nicastro 1 game
    Ciraco 1 game
    Allen 2 games
    Tate 7 games: 2+3+1+1
    Cage 9 games: 6+3
    Richards 9 games
    Daniels 1 game
    Coxie 3 games: 2+1
    Phillips 6 games
    Brinkman 2 games
    Barlow 4 games: 2+1+1
    Acheampong 2 games: 1+1
    Costigan 6 games: 4+2
    Hendrix 3 games: 1+1+1

I've been intrigued by this ever since it became evident we were not likely to see Muamba and Bladek on the field. Cap management is something managers in the other sports spend a lot of time and effort on, and I'm interested in considering how it's done in the CFL. IMO Argos have done a first-rate job on it this year. Some pretty big salaries have come off the books, opening up room to bonus up some guys who've had their contracts extended (including Kelly and Nicastro).

I appreciate the thought and effort that went into this…I am sure others do as well.

Would you consider applying to be the Argos capologist?

But seriously, this is very good work by you and reflective of the team's quality management of football ops in juggling these salaries.

The tremendous depth on this team at all positions has helped them manage the injury list and cap. They may not be over the cap at all. They are building a model franchise on the field.
    GO ARGOS!!!
