IMO McManis and Pickett don't have the seasons they do (not to mention the pass-rushers and the ballhawking secondary) if Williams doesn't do the job in the middle. He was not flashy or particularly noticeable much of the season, but his play enabled others around him to have success. With Muamba almost guaranteed to retire, we're going to need a solid MLB. Maybe Cassar is ready for that role (if he re-signs, which is far from a sure thing) but I personally would be most comfortable heading into 2024 with (the first) Jordan Williams in the middle of the defence.

If this is accurate (and if Naylor is reporting it, it very likely is) then kudos to Kelly. QB restructurings to free up cash have been the most significant story of the off-season so far, IMO, and having a QB making a lot more than other teams' QBs would put a team at a significant disadvantage. Next move is Collaros's.

Kelly quote tweeting Naylor's report with 'GO ARGOS' makes me think that it is 99.9% accurate.

Great news... lots of work and big decisions still to be made.

Bede. Brissett. Coxie. Daniel. Hendrix. Jones. Leake. Oakman. Ouellette. Peters. Pickett. Richards. Tate.

It's been said before, but I can't recall us ever having a free agent list that so resembled an all-star roster.

That's a lot of guys. We obviously can't get them all back, but I sure hope we re-sign Bede, Brissett, Hendrix, Leake, Ouellette, Peters and Pickett.

Coxie, Daniel, Jones and Oakman would be nice but are replaceable IMO. Richards and Tate can walk.

I'd love to keep Coxie he seems to have a connection with Kelly and he's been clutch (particularly against the Als).

Lalji mentioned in a comment that he thinks we'll retain Pickett.

I agree re Coxie, but we can't keep everyone and IMO he's more easily replaceable than the other guys I prioritized.

I'll be shocked (but super happy) if we somehow manage to keep Pickett. Hope Farhan is right.

It’s one thing to restructure washed-up has-beens like Mitchell and Harris, it should be quite another when we’re talking about the league MOP. I sure hope Chad didn’t have to give up any of his well-earned $$$.

If LB Jordan Williams isn’t retained and IF Muamba retires, could the team tweak the ratio and start pending FA Jonathan Jones at MLB? He has been super underrated and made starts at MLB last season and was great. He, McManus and hopefully Pickett, they would be by far the best LB corp in the league.

As for AJO…if he leaves, and with the possibility of KO returns being limited by new rules, does Javon Leake warrant a look at more snaps on offence as there are new return candidates on the roster too? I think Leake is much more than just a return guy.

My guess is more upfront money for slightly less overall. I think the players like the upfront cash.

I’m sure it worked out well for both sides, Kelly made the ultimate team move in restructuring his contract to enhance the odds of retaining as many players as possible.

I really like Jones as well, but I have a hard time seeing how a MLB could be mediocre in a defence as dominant as the Argos' was last year. As I said earlier, Williams was not flashy, but to my eyes he did plenty of good work that helped Pickett, McManis and the guys up front do what they did. I'd like him back, not only because he's a NAT starter but because IMO he's a very good MLB.

Sure Williams was a contributor but I think Johnathan Jones is a much better player and it showed when he was in the lineup.

I thought Williams missed a lot of tackles last year early on. No questioning his speed though which really helps in pass coverage taking away crossing routes which could be killers.

Maybe they can help him get some ad deals. Burns me that Raptor players get Gillette, McDonald's, Subway ads and not one CFL player or Argo players get that kind of exposure. Raptor TV audience is nothing special.
