Williams just finished his entry-level deal so didn't make a lot of money last year. One report I saw suggested about $86k. He'll will get a decent raise, but I don't see him getting into the upper 100s.

I thought all entry level Canadian players were restricted to CFL minimum wage their first 3 seasons, or is it 2?; or not the case at all ?

The salary scale is set out clearly. $86k or so is about what a first-round NAT could be paid (including salary, bonus and allowance) in Year 3.

Looking at this 3Down list of free agents from the end of November you are correct Will, Williams isn’t listed.

Perception is reality, though.

...and as more Canadians watch CFL vs. NBA there is nothing wrong with the reality of seeing top CFL players in commercials. It will just be reflecting back at them what their present reality and perception is.

One of these things -- either the two lists implying he's not a free agent or the written reports suggesting he is -- is inaccurate. I would like to trust a list the league published, but this is a league with a history of screwing up these sorts of administrative details, so I'm not putting my faith in either one or the other. Until there is definitive proof that Williams is under contract for 2024, I'm going to assume he's not someone we can count on.

Digging deeper, CFL.ca has him "added to game roster" on Jan. 24. That's the same description used recently for Chad Kelly, Royce Metchie and Flo. But oddly, the latter two were also listed as deleted from the game roster. That likely meant old contract ripped up and replaced by a new one. That's what allegedly happened with Kelly as well, yet his is shown only as added, not deleted. Yet again the league can't seem to make sense administratively. Still, this reference to JW seems to suggest he had a new deal registered with the league on Jan. 24. Guess we'll need to wait for the team to confirm one way or the other.

In yet another example of how the league can't get out of its own way when it comes to fan engagement, it is impossible to find any transactions before 2024 on its site. Presumably all transactions in previous years -- which were published online -- exist in an archive and yet it has been hidden to the public. Yeesh.

That probably solves the Williams mystery -- the DL is probably the guy on the transactions list -- but not why Kelly is listed differently than Flo and Metchie.

I emailed someone in the Argos front office who confirmed MLB Jordan Williams is under contract and NOT a pending FA. As for where Jones fits in, if he has been resigned, he fit in quite nicely last season and played a lot with both McManus and MLB Jordan Williams in the lineup.
