Well said. Remember Chad Kackert? Great RB and great personality but his intense style of play eventually did him in. The human body just can't handle that kind of punishment over a long period of time.

The Argos have signed WR Savon Scarver, who I seem to remember from pre-season last year. I think he was with Ottawa.

    Perhaps a replacement for Leake?

Too bad he isn't going to get his old number, though.
RIP George Reed. A rb career is brutally short. Saskatchewan is the only CFL market a player can have real sponsorship money. Good luck to him.
The Argo o-line is outstanding. Adeboboye and/or Carey will have success running the ball. With Kelly and their receivers the attack is very balanced still and topshelf.
Kelly is nowhere at his ceiling upside yet. I would not want to face him in another playoff game.
    GO ARGOS!!!

Coxie re-signing is excellent news - could be poised for an even bigger season with Kelly throwing to him.

Not that concerned about Argos signing a big name and expensive FA; a couple of smart signings of not so big names but solid football players to add to a good roster would be nice. We shall see.

Just wondering where / when Mathieu Betts is going to sign. If he signs in the east could not be so good for us.

Sounds like he's coming in to audition for Leake's role.

Mitchell has covered Argos for a couple of years for various web outfits. Writing for Sports Illustrated sounds impressive (because the magazine once was impressive) but it is a sh!t show these days. Recently announced mass layoffs, and has been caught using AI to "write" some articles. The days of legendary journos like Mark Mulvoy, Frank Deford, Walter Iooss, etc., are long gobne.

The offence is largely back intact, with the exception of Ouellette, so I feel pretty good about where the team is there. They had so much depth last year - more than any other team I have ever seen in this league - so they can afford to lose some excellent players as they still have a lot of excellent players. I am anxious to see who the defensive coordinator will be and how that unit looks in 2024 but I have little concern about the offence.

    Argos Sign WR Jeff Badet

    https://3downnation.com/2024/02/08/a...er-jeff-badet/

The Toronto Argonauts have signed American receiver Jeff Badet to their training camp roster.
The 29-year-old speedster played for the XFL’s Vegas Vipers in 2023, finishing eighth in the league in receiving. In nine games, he hauled in 34 passes for 448 yards and five touchdowns but was not picked up in the dispersal draft after the Vipers folded due to the USFL-XFL merger.

In 2022, Badet played one game for the USFL’s Michigan Panthers, making one catch for 12 yards before suffering a hamstring injury. He played for the Dallas Renegades in the second version of the XFL in 2020, recording 16 receptions for 108 yards in five games before the league folded.
The five-foot-11, 183-pound pass catcher began his professional career as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings in 2018, spending a year on the practice squad before being released following training camp the next year. He returned to the NFL following his first stint in the XFL and was activated for three games with the Washington Commanders in 2020, recording no statistics. He later had brief stops with the Atlanta Falcons and Las Vegas Raiders.

Badet finished his collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma, catching 26 passes for 400 yards and three touchdowns from Heisman trophy winner Baker Mayfield in 2017. He caught the attention of NFL scouts after he was clocked running a reported 4.27-second forty-yard dash at the Sooners’ pro day.
The native of Orlando, Fla. originally attended the University of Kentucky. Over four seasons with the Wildcats, he played 36 games and recorded 82 receptions for 1,385 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Argos begin the 2024 season on Sunday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. ET when they host the B.C. Lions.
A 4.27 second 40 yard dash is rapid.

Indeed - almost unheard of; wonder why it says "reported" as these tests are usually considered accurate and get reported.

Regardless - i'll believe this guy has blazing speed.

Badet is a US Spring Football Veteran. Whenever a new league appears, Badet signs and is considered a big name. Last year he was with the $#&show that was the XFLs Vegas Vipers. There were several issues with that team, so its hard to gage his performance.

Worth a look in TC; Badet's college ball receiver production is not that impressive, but maybe he's more in the mix, with Scarver (RedBlacks fan behind me last season kept raving about the guy like he was a superstar in waiting), to compete to replace Leake = big shoes to fill.

Assuming the team goes with 3 American WRs and Coxie and Daniels are two of them---it leaves only one spot and that is assuming they go with 3 Americans. By my rough count there will be eight American receivers competing for that one spot and perhaps a spot on the PR. If he is as good as he appears, Xavier Malone will be tough to beat out.

Hate to lose A.J., but happy for him. Careers are short, and you have to maximize your earnings. On top of that, he is going to be treated like a rock star in Regina... their version of Auston Matthews. And conceivably could supplement his income with some local endorsement deals, which would be next to impossible here. Good for him.

Some Argo fans are going nuts on social media, a sky-is-falling outlook that seems to ignore a few facts. We still have the CFL's MOP and all-star QB (plus his two backups), the entire starting o-line that was the league's best (and its top two backups from last year), all of our strong contingent of NAT receivers and our all-star-calibre INT receiver, several good pieces on defence including McManis (probably the best overall defensive player in the league the last two seasons combined), Orimalade, Ceresna and some very good DBs. We've already filled the hole caused by the loss of Bede, and in doing so opened up a spot for an INT backup wherever one is most needed.

We still need to sign an INT receiver or two, but some good ones are available including two of "our own" as well as Tim White and Dalton Schoen. RB needs shoring up but Deonta McMahon looks promising (and can replace Leake as a returner). I'm also of the opinion that some of the guys we've lost (if not most or all of them) are unlikely to do as well elsewhere. But that's why they play the games on the field, not on paper in the middle of February.
    Well said.
