That's an excellent re-signing. I would love to see Trevon Tate back but I can't imagine that another team won't offer him a sizable contract and an excellent chance to be a starter.

A nice piece of the puzzle. Cage needs to stay healthy.

I'm actually very interested to see in which order the club re-signs (or attempts to re-sign) its own free agents.

We all have our own tier list of priorities, fun to watch the club's list play out in real time.

I recall, last year, that activity really didn't ramp up until the latter half of January, so for those worry warts (like me), there is no need to be alarmed yet.

Argos media relations tweeted the signing as Isiah Cafe. Being a huge Larry David fan, I had to ask if it represented Mocha Joe's or Latte Larry's (the spite store).

I think regarding the defensive free agents, it all starts with their choice for DC. They need to move on that quickly, and Josh Bell would be my choice. IMO, that would mean a lot to the key FA's they have on the defensive side. I know the thinking is a lot of of the guys will follow Mace, but the fact is, we still don't know what to expect from the Riders. The Argos can sell their recent success to guys that would expect to get those playoff bonus cheques from the league.

I dunno. I think the Argos could do better than 22 HR from the first base position.

But seriously, I think that's a good move for continuity if he is ready for the step up (and RD doesn't already have someone else in mind).

Hopefully a choice coming soon, perhaps they were waiting until the Blue Jays and the Ohtani fiasco to subside before making an announcement.

No doubt Mace would love to have a few Argo D stars follow him to the Riders; but they would all be co$tly; I'll be surprised if more than one or two jump the good ship to go to a re-building Riders team - where as AV points out there is no safe bet of any play-off bonus bucks.

And there are so many good free agents every off-season now, the Argos could easily add fine replacements or new guys - like Pickett & Orimolade last year.

Argos have built a pretty strong team culture which should put them in a good position recruiting any necessary replacements.

Tate has really improved since he came into the league when he seemed to be released by Ottawa or Hamilton on a weekly basis. I credit the Argos coaching. Mace needs help desperately on his new teams O Line. He could go after Ciraco, Bladek and Allen in Free Agency to help keep his QB Trevor Harris healthy.

Jim Barker on the Rod Peterson show speculating that Jason Shivers will end up in Edmonton, Josh Bell will follow Mace to the Riders and the Argonauts will hire from within (Eiben or Fields) for the DC position.

I am still hoping that we can retain Bell but Shivers to Edmonton makes the most sense given that he is a protege of Chris Jones.
