The Toronto Argonauts have re-signed American linebacker Wynton McManis to a one-year deal, per sources.
The 29-year-old defender joined Toronto ahead of the 2022 season, following a two-year stint in the NFL. He has been named a CFL all-star in each of the past two seasons, becoming the CFL’s premier weakside linebacker.

McManis amassed 88 defensive tackles, seven special teams tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble in 2022, dressing for 14 games before a knee injury cut his regular season short. He followed that performance up with 79 defensive tackles in 2023, adding one special teams tackle, four sacks, four interceptions and a pair of defensive touchdowns in 16 games.

The Memphis product began his CFL career with the Calgary Stampeders in 2017, playing three seasons with the team. He has compiled 271 defensive tackles, 49 special teams tackles, 11 sacks, six interceptions, three forced fumbles and two touchdowns in 75 regular season games.

McManis originally signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2016, dressing for two NFL games. He later spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins in 2020 and 2021, playing one game before returning to the CFL.
The Argos are slated to begin their 2024 season on Sunday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. ET when they host the B.C. Lions.
