    Simoni Lawrence retires

Love him or hate him, he made a significant impact as a top-flight player in this league for about a decade, and by all accounts was great in the Hamilton community.

Agree with all of this. I may also note, another prediction (or observation) of mine has come true. I suggested a couple of weeks ago that he should retire and take a job with the team, because he is very popular among their fan base.

It'll be an interesting discussion what his legacy is. To me he doesn't scream HOF LB, holds multiple franchise records and probably will make it to the HOF based on that and longevity. But where does he rank all-time? May not even be a top 5 LB in Ticats history.

He was always Yappy behind the mic but I have no doubt a nice guy off the field. CFL needs characters like Lawrence. Hope he has a good retirement.

I wasn’t his biggest fan but for me there is no doubt he is a Hall of Fame player, played at a very high level over an extended period of time.
Ticat fans thought he was god like as he appeared to have a full complement of teeth.
Kidding aside he is a very active ambassador in the Hamilton community so kudos to him!

Credit to Ticats and Simoni for playing all his career in Hamilton. Nice when a player can stay in one city for one team. Hope he has great retirement and congrats on a great career.

He was traded to Hamilton from Edmonton along with Masoli.

Hamilton really fleeced Edmonton in that player transaction.

Does anyone remember a documentary series about the Eskimos that aired around 2012? It followed the team for a few weeks or months. I can't recall where the series aired exactly although I think it may have been on CityTV. Anyway, the two memories I have about that series is how excited management was in recruiting Simoni Lawrence and the series spent a decent amount of time on Lawrence in his rookie season. The other memory I have is how Ed Hervey seemed annoyed with Eric Tillman at one point in the series. Hervey was Tillman's assistant GM at that time.

EDIT: Here's a clip from that series:
Chad Kelly + Dan Adeboboye + David Ungerer + Damonte Coxie + DaVaris Daniels + Dejon Brissett = Unstoppable Force

I remember that show. There was a promising lineman who ended up starting strong but had to retire with a leg injury I believe. I forget his name. He, like Simoni, was a rookie they focused on a lot.
