And I will not even go into the bewildering presence of Toronto Police Snipers and SWAT on the sidelines.
Maybe its the fact that after you reach a certain level of corporate wealth in this country, it becomes the taxpayer's responsibility to pay for your security. Or maybe its the fact that we are such a dangerous and criminal bunch that Rogers cannot afford the high costs of keeping us safe, and we need to pay Toronto Police to keep an eye on us for them.
It raises my eyebrows to see a mixed line of RC Security and Toronto Police practically in unison guarding the sidelines at home games. Cops get paid overtime to stand at sporting events, and it's $90/hr from the taxpayers versus $15-20 an hour for Rogers to pay their own security.
There was a non-violent incident today where a few drunkards in their 20s were being obnoxious on the crowd. RC Security was watching the whole thing but did not deem it necessary to intervene. Meanwhile, a police officer signalled for backup and it was the Toronto Police who descended on them, grabbing one by the arm forcefully and arresting them. All RC Security did was escort the police to the seats once the first cop signalled for them to descend.
A few years ago at the pro-CFL rally a few years ago at Bills in Toronto it was Toronto Police, not Rogers Security that prevented us pro-CFLers from entering Rogers Premises under threat of arrest.
My question is when did a segment of Toronto Police start working for Rogers?
