    Roughriders Canada's team?

I heard the premier of Saskatchewan saying that the roughriders are Canada's team! Do you double blue hooligans agree?

The Argonauts have more followers but they sit at home watching on tv rather than going to the dome. Sask is Sask team and no one else gives a rats ass about the wheat eaters.

i would have to say yes, they are Canada's team the same way i would say Green Bay is americas team. Both places have less stuff to do so all passion is focused on the club. And Reebok have said the Riders are 3rd in Canada for apparel sales behind the Leafs and Habs. The riders outsell the oilers and flames combined in that dept and all 7 CFL clubs. If not the riders than who??

I un-hide 1argoholic's comments from time to time, and sometimes it's worth it. "Wheat eaters" is a pretty strange slur! If you think Riders' fans are annoying, check out those "air breathers" in Winnipeg!

Love 'em or hate 'em, I would have to say that currently the Green Riders are Canada's team. And yeah sure they pack that dump of a stadium they have now, but it wasn't always that way. Don't forget up until 1989, they had 1, yes only 1 Grey Cup, and were almost never even close to successful in all those years. But they've always been lovable losers, and most people have a soft spot for a team like that. You have to love how die hard their fans are, now that they have a decent team for the last few years

As someone new to the league, I would say the Sask fans are good for the rest of the league. Look at Calgary tonight, the attendance has to be up 8K because of all the green fans.

like previously mentioned - 3rd overall in merchandise sales behind the Leafs and Habs and outsell the other 7 teams combined in the CFL - I don't think it's even debatable the flatlanders are the most popular CFL team in the country.

Which shows how good they are for the league -- strong emotions for and against them.

Most of those Rider fans in Calgary have lived in Calgary for years. My wife's family has had seasons since the stadium opened. Before moving my wife had seasons for years. Many of those fans wear Stamps colours until the Riders come to town and then they wear green. Same as the many of the Rider fans do in all the other CFL cities. For years and years the biggest export out of Saskatchewan was its people because there were no jobs. That has turned around and the province gave money to former Saskatchewanites (think that's what they're called) in certain fields to move back. I had a sweet landscape job lined up about five years back for one of my wifes co-workers until the rug got pulled out on me. He was a nurse and the couple decided to go back because he was offered good incentives.

I didn't have issues with Rider fans until 97 Grey Cup in Edmonton where Rider fans were pricks to Argo fans. Also no issues with Winnipeg until the 91 Grey Cup and parade in particular where The Argoholics were spit at and sworn at by hundreds.

There is nothing else pro sports wise in the province so yah they jump on board and follow the team.

Same story here. Most Stamps and Rider fans who attend Argo/Ti Cat games actually live in the area and have been in Ontario for years. I have met so many people from Calgary who live in Toronto.

Yes, the Riders are probably bigger villains than the Esks today which is a franchise that a generation at least grew up hating.

As much as I don't like the Riders, I would have to agree, they are Canada's team when it comes to the CFL, love em or hate em.

That generation hated the Eskimos for winning five Grey Cups in a row. I think the reasons for hating Saskatchewan are substantially different. They won the Grey Cup in 2007 and were finalists in 2009 and 2010 to be sure, but it certainly has nothing to do with the team itself, but some and I underline elements of their fanbase who like to ram the "Canada's team" down our throats! It is interesting though because the animosity that I have for Saskatchewan is probably similar to the animosity that haters of the Maple Leafs have.

Strange thing about Rider fans is that there are plenty of dumb assed ones who rip Toronto and act like total tools and then most are Maple Leaf fans.

A lot of Hamilton folks are like that too though.

Maybe they think Wendel Clark still plays for the Leafs?
