With all due respect, if you've followed the league you'd know that the Grey Cup sells. There has been years when the Grey Cup game and event have basically saved the league. As mentioned with all due respect, I hope you're a new fan or someone who has not followed the league ever, because asking a question such as whether the 500 level is open for the Grey Cup and whether they could actually sell 55,000 seats is bordering on trolling imo...I apologize beforehand, but get real....55,000 people pay to watch UFC, or worse Wrestlemania at the dome....Why would you not think that the Grey Cup can sell 55,000 seats at the dome? Sure, maybe ticket speculators and sponsors buy up some, maybe many, but do think that does not happen at the Super Bowl or at other championship sporting events.
I'm not trolling. I guess you could say i'm a new fan.
My point is, Toronto sells around 20k once every 2 weeks. That's pretty bad to say the least if you compare it with the Jays selling alot more even when it's 3 games a week. Not to say that CFL is alot more dynamic and fluid than MLB is.

If it's not the Yankees, Red Sox, or a special occurrence (holiday/opening day/return of Halladay), do they really legitimately sell more than 20K very often?

This year they seem to have done better in that department.

This will be my 27th Grey Cup. We had to cancel Edmonton do to a dog emergency two days before going two years ago. I've also headed to the Grey Cup city to party but not hit the game like last year, Montreal and Winnipeg the last times they held.
Grey Cup is HUGE. There are plenty who just go to party and not go to the game. Last year we decided to sell our tickets to friends who were Lions fans. Last time in Montreal I decided not to go because of the gongshow the previous Grey Cup at the Big O. They basically open one gate and the crowd was too much for me. I'm not a cow going into some BS slaughter house. Then the last time in Winnipeg I had food poisoning. Still fun to hit the Grey Cup cities.
Not sure about next year in Regina. Dash Tours has booked everything up. I don't like the monopoly aspect of a Regina company doing that. I know of many regulars who may bail next year. It'll be a big green Saskatchewan incest party. What's the fun if it's just fans from one province.
Look at crowds at Mosaic. How many fans do you ever see from the visiting team?

You and Winnipeg don't seem to go too well together.

If everyone lies about the numbers then the numbers are equally wrong which makes them a pretty good base.

In theory, only if everyone lied to the same extent.
