Grey Cup Rematch!
Grey Cup Rematch!
If anyone has seen CFL Wired on TSN - Week 1 - You may have seen Jerome Messam call the Argos "Clowns, who stole one from me(us)"
I expect the same sentiment to be shared by the Stampeders - expect the emotions to be high.
Argos need to be on point - particularly the offensive line protection in protecting Ricky Ray.
I expect that the team will shake off the rust and play better on offense.
Before everyone gets bent out of shape remember Messam is no longer a Stampeder. Save your vitriol for when the Roughriders come for town.
Having said that I am sure some of the current Stamps are looking for a little revenge even if they won't admit it. " New season" . "Past is past" " Blah Blah Blah"
Because Inside We All Bleed Red
According to the Argos twitter, The Shipyard will be opening at 3pm on Saturday. A little early in my opinion for a 7pm kickoff. What exactly is there to do for 4 hours?
Seriously??
Utterly ridiculous.
I was going to go down for 4:00 pm which is when I understood The Shipyard was to open.
I was solely going that early to get the replica ring.
Well, the ring isn't worth four hours of this STH's time.
I'll show up just ahead of kickoff as I usually do and leave the rings to the commodity traders (who have no real interest in the Argonauts) to list these on kijiji for sale.
I ALWAYS laugh at this scenario (it gets repeated every time there is a championship rematch).
Why?
Because who cares which team won the next (regular season) match between the previous year's finalists?
I have only ever heard, as an example, "Toronto Argonauts - 2017 Grey Cup Champions", not "Calgary Stampeders - Winners of the Regular Season Rematch Against The 2017 Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonauts".
Is there a trophy that goes with winning the regular season rematch?
TOR ADD INT Rodney SMITH (WR) Florida State
TOR DEL INT Brian TYMS (WR) Florida A&M
That didn't take long.
The Argos will play better but the Stamps are always tough.
I agree ---
This is ridiculous (its also supposed to rain on Saturday which should "help" things immensely....) -- why the STH were not given one of these to begin with is beyond me ("hey, thanks for being a STH in 2017 especially after we sucked in 2016 and yet you still bought tickets and invested in our product when almost no one else would!!")....but of course the person who shows up to drink beers 4 hours before a game in the rain is much more valuable than the one who invests in your team year after year despite there being no incentive apparently to do so (sorry, it's obviously the 15% discount card (which couldn't even get figured out until year 3 at BMO, and the crappy coupons) --- I mean clearly its not because of price point as discounted tickets already abound (and that's after the price slashing that took 3 years to figure out too apparently) that undercut season ticket prices (or locations), or basically sell individual games for the same price (yay groupon/travelzoo!) with no long term commitment of funds.....eventually you will keep alienating your core base enough that they will simply leave and then the Argos will be shocked and wonder where all the fans are.....
At this point buying season tickets seems like a donation to the CFL at this point for me, one which I am less and less likely to make based on what I have seen so far in terms of how STH are treated.....as I can clearly get better and cheaper tickets from the team themselves (never mind the secondary market) by waiting, and I will have to buy my ring off of Kijiji or ebay anyways, as guaranteed they will be there being sold by the "true fans".....
The team has moved Rodney Smith from the PR to the Active Roster and put Tyms on the PR in Smith's place. Though I have no problem with the move, it does appear to be a quick decision. I wonder what the coaches saw in the game film that prompted the move?
With Ford unlikely to play against Calgary, either Kenneh or Washington will take his place. Personally I'd like to see Washington given a chance to prove himself, after his excellent TC and pre-season games.
Tyms is not a guy who can stretch defences, IMO. More of an SJ Green type, but without Green's track record. Smith is a huge target who showed good hands in the second preseason game. Nothing to lose and possibly a lot to be gained from this switch.
