I think the Ticats should just roll with Taylor Powell.

I noted that the Ticats have signed former Argos LB Trevor Hoyte.

I am surprised that it took this long for Hoyte to catch on somewhere.

Yet other D players like - David Menard (former Als D player of the year and a real good D-lineman) and DT Mo Diallo (former Ticat draft pick and very nice DT resume - one of the best ones in recent CFL drafts IMO) remain un-signed ?

I think teams are trying to figure out what they currently have before dipping back into the free agent pool. I would be surprised to see Menard or Diallo out of work for the entire 2024 season.

I won't be surprised to see them written-off forever. CFL teams have often a limited & myopic quota of Canadian players. Menard is a former Als D player of the year, and Diallo has a very impressive DI resume out of US college ball with some impressive play with the Ticats- these aren't some average joe back-up / ST only guys. Why would they not be signed by now? I have read about a bunch of new American players signed by CFL teams well into TC. Jonestown signed yet another American QB the other day.

You act like it's a one way street. The player could also be waiting for a more favourable situation. Diallo was only cut a week ago.

Most of the signings since camps opened have come after teams cut someone else, in order to stay within roster restrictions. Adding a Menard or a Diallo now would mean cutting someone else who is currently getting looked at, and probably a NAT. What's the harm in waiting to see how the guys you signed months ago develop for a week or two? Those other two guys aren't likely to take themselves off the market just because no one jumped immediately to sign them. Also, Menard is 33 and would almost certainly be more expensive than a guy on a first contract.

There are no ratio restrictions in terms of TC invites. Americans galore is the GOB way though. And if i was a team in need at a specific position and looking for serious upgrades at the position rather than TC prospect/projects, I think i might be tempted to sign a former D MOP candidate who has demonstrated to be a top notch pass rusher in Menard. But, maybe the guy is asking huge CFL coin, or maybe most teams figure they already have better DEs in camp.
