A lot of ex-CFL QBs as CFL coaches and some of them advance pretty fast - often with very little pro (or any) coaching experience - Millanovich, Brady, Khari Jones, Dickenson, Maas, Calvillo, even Ryan Dinwiddie. Used to be / or some football wisdom would say - guy had to put in a lot of years coaching - starting at lower levels (HS, Junior, college ball) and then in the pros, and being a position coach, before you could advance to the role of OC, DC and then HC. Not in the modern CFL it seems - for the most part now anyways. Kent Austin put in a bit of time before becoming a CFL HC, but nothing compared to decades of coaching experience a lot of coaches have, or used to have. Maybe it's more relating to players now, with age being a factor, rather than detailed experience and knowledge of x & o 's and football strategies and formations and adjustments? GMs now also stick with mostly what/who they know and ex-players just a few years out of the game and who grew up in the current standard, same-look CFL offences are seen as good fits I guess?

    Definitely a good hire.

Yes, like Rich Stubler great DC not effective as HC.

It could be argued that Stubler was only given 10 games as HC to prove himself. He won 4 more games then his HOF replacement Don Mathews did.

I don't have many CFL names at the top of my head, but yeah, although as gill rightly points out Stubler was only given 10 games in order to prove himself. An example of this in the NFL would be a guy like Norv Turner who was a good OC in Dallas, but utterly failed as a HC in Washington or Dick Lebeau who is a great DC, but failed as a HC. The concept is called the Peter Principal and states that people will reach their level of incompetence, although sometimes a promoted coordinator does get stuck in a bad situation. Stubler may be a perfect example of that with the behind the scenes stuff going on regarding Kerry Joseph, etc.

I'm sure there were other factors as well, perhaps Stubler wasn't happy as a Head Coach.

So according to Jeff Hunt, there is no protocol in place for this, yet it's been happening in the CFL, NFL, NHL for years. Then brings up the Steinauer situation, which is weird, because it's well known now that Steinauer agreed to a no move clause when he signed his extension, for more money and stability. Unless Maas has a no move clause, it's two different situations, sounds like Jeff Hunt is just trying to change things for his benefit and a bit of a primadonna. I wonder, when is Toronto going to receive compensation from Ottawa ?

According to Hunt, Campbell had an expiring contract, so that move was okay, doesn't mention Maas, Chiu or the other coaches that followed Campbell from Calgary.

I'm sure Hunt is still pissed about losing the Grey Cup and Edmonton raising a stink over the log cutting TD celebration.

Well I can't say the RedBlacks are making it any easier to not dislike them.

Ricky Ray and Maas could corner the market on ears.

I seem to remember the game where Arland Bruce put on the spider man mask after a touchdown.
Stubler looked like he was furious and probably wanted to bench him. But there was the owner giving Bruce high 5's.
I think Stubler's hands were tied with that team.

I think what might also be ticking Hunt off is that Maas rumored he'd take Chiu and the other offensive position coached with him.

Yes, but from what I read, their entire coaching staff below the coordinators, have contracts that expire on Dec 31. If that's the case, they still have a 2 week head start to get them signed. That's on them if they bolt.

Hunt is making himself looks worse as this situation goes on, childish really. Funny, because his GM, doesn't really seem to have an issue with all this, as it was Hunt not Desjardins who requested the compensation.
It's been speculated that Maas wanted to bring over the entire offensive staff, but it sounds as though only RB's coach Jordan Maksymic is heading over to the Esks.

Orridge steps in and gives Ottawa Marcus Brady as compensation.
