A lot of ex-CFL QBs as CFL coaches and some of them advance pretty fast - often with very little pro (or any) coaching experience - Millanovich, Brady, Khari Jones, Dickenson, Maas, Calvillo, even Ryan Dinwiddie. Used to be / or some football wisdom would say - guy had to put in a lot of years coaching - starting at lower levels (HS, Junior, college ball) and then in the pros, and being a position coach, before you could advance to the role of OC, DC and then HC. Not in the modern CFL it seems - for the most part now anyways. Kent Austin put in a bit of time before becoming a CFL HC, but nothing compared to decades of coaching experience a lot of coaches have, or used to have. Maybe it's more relating to players now, with age being a factor, rather than detailed experience and knowledge of x & o 's and football strategies and formations and adjustments? GMs now also stick with mostly what/who they know and ex-players just a few years out of the game and who grew up in the current standard, same-look CFL offences are seen as good fits I guess?
