I don't disagree that the CFL has become plagued by too many teams using the same basic approach both offensively and defensively, but one easy improvement would be to increase the number of plays per game. This would definitely happen if the clock rules either went back to the old approach (starting the 20 as soon as ball and sticks are placed) or to a straight 30- (or 25) -second clock that starts as soon as the whistle blows the previous play dead. I don't see any reason why this wouldn't add 15 or so more snaps per game, which means 15 or so more opportunities to be entertained. Not sure what is needed to get more variety into how teams play offence and defence -- maybe hashmark changes or mandating x NATs on defence would help.
