My thought is even further out there.

Reduce the regular season to 16 games. As long as NFLN is willing to pay the league enough to offset the loss of 1 home game revnues/don't impact player salaries. It would be better for the players less wear and tear.

Once they're at 10 teams, there would only be 1 bye week needed. 17 total weeks for the season.

Moving the Grey Cup from late November to 3rd week of October is a 5 week shift. The above scenario means the start of the season only needs to be moved up by 2 weeks which is doable in my view.

I'm completely against this idea. Adding 1 more pre season game isn't a good thing, and the notion that game played in "better" weather = more ticket sales is something only Len Rhodes believes (Terrible Exec. for the Esks IMO). Attendance issues occur during the summer games as well, and yet not one mention of it.

It would be suicide having a season opener going head to head with a Stanley Cup finals game, especially if a Canadian team was involved.
It's us vs the rest of the country

I think 18 is here to stay. Pro leagues rarely if ever reduce games. Goodell is desperate to take the NFL to 18.

I wouldn't count on much of a payday from the NFL.

CFL Regular season starting on Canada Day weekend and the playoffs ending in November make the most sense to me.

Agreed on 18 games here to stay.
As for the NFL network - NBC Sports and the NFL Network are said to be interested, rumour floating around is that a deal could be close with the NFL. It would theoretically allow for more games to air on TV in the States, and CFL on ESPN games were comparable to MLS tv numbers FWIW.

If they can even get 10M per season to start, it would be great.
