Well Pfeiffer averaged a stunning 31 yards a punt last night. Really don't know how the Argos are going to overcome that loss.

I don't think we should be throwing stones from our glass house considering the Argonauts kicking game. Desjardins himself even stated that the plan was to slowly develop Pfeffer, but with Maher not playing exceptional they had to speed things up. I'm not Desjardins biggest fan, but at least he knows it's going to take some time with Pfeffer.
Alix went from a 43.3 average his first game to 32.2 the next, Pfeffer's overall average is now down to 42.6.

Boy, speaking of punters did Palardy average 20 yards yesterday? Hard to imagine this PLUS zero hang time! In the CFL that'll get you out of the playoffs quick.
Yeah, they need to find a punter for the next couple of games. Even an American. There is really no reason to be dressing both Isaiah Green and Vincent Agnew yesterday. Going to be tough to bring in a vet, knowing it's only for 2 games, so they should try and find one of the many American guys out there that can punt and kick off. Someone that may be looking for an opportunity to get professional game film on themselves.

I swear I thought I could have gone down to the feild in my civvies and give the Argos better feild position than Palardy did with some of his punts. That was embarrassing and the team should be ashamed to find themselves in that position. You all know where I stood on the kicking situation for weeks.
Realistically, he had 1 decent punt, maybe 2, all game and that was it. Maybe he's not getting the reps in practice, but it's not as if their practice schedule has been altered and practicing at Downsview should've prepared him for yesterday's conditions as it's a wide open field with no large high buildings surrounding the practice field.
For the record he averaged 42 yards a punt.

Argos have signed International Kicker Jake Rogers to the PR. No indication that he can punt. This team needs a punter badly. Oh so badly. Swayze come back.
He hadnled all 3 kicking jobs in college. Found this on his 2009 College season at Cincinnati.
Looks like a better punter and kickoff guy, than FG kicker, which is good.

To much gets made of this whole short week thing, the Argos had 5 and 6 days between games, I really don't see the issue. It's not as if the team looked tired, defense actually looked fine, ST's has been an issue all year and offensively the team flat out sucked. Would one more day of rest or practice honestly make the team play lights out ? I doubt it.
Serious question, what's with the love for American kickers ?
I don't see how their so much better than Canadians or even Pfeffer for that matter.
And Sean White was up for grabs this season; Boris Bede was signed as a FA this off-season (qualifies as a CFL import but CFL "scouts" had to be in outerspace somewhere to not notice how strong a leg he had for Laval in CIS ball); the Ticats acquired O'Neill (Duck Dynasty); Rene Paredes was an undrafted FA signing; I believed Hallarajhu was too.
Serious answer: you look far & wide to find good players, and don't assume Americans are better. But by all means - sign some import kickers for a look if you have big need - which the Argos obviously do - and why not bring back that other Palardy as punter - he did OK in one game.
Like Paul said, there are just a much higher quantity of American kickers out there. Very difficult to find an available quality Canadian kicker that isn't already in the league.
OV, even you have to admit that if you have 100 American kickers for every 10 Canadian kickers, mathematics suggests that you will likely find more quality American kickers available. If there were a lot of Canadian kickers that were available and good, by your GOB "thinkers" pre determined positions for Canadians, wouldn't every team prefer to have a Canadian kicker? Sorry, I don't see a lot of quality kickers and punters playing in the CIS right now.

There are around 3500 eligible players available for the NFL draft every year. Only 7% or around 250 actually get drafted. Our great kicker Swayze was undrafted. The numbers churning out of the states are sometimes mind boggling. It's hard for any GM not to be focused on trying to find the gems in all that talent down there.
Great players can come from anywhere, but as you mentioned, mathematically, we just can't compete, not even close.
And surely you realize that punting & place-kicking has some subtle differences between the 2 games; and American kickers are often one job only specialists.
Now - name me all the very good American punters out there who are willing to sign up in Canada and are going to be able to handle kicking in a different style game and are going to be upgrades on the Argos current situation - got any names ?
