Marcus Ball has been cut.
Marcus Ball has been cut.
Sign him please, if possible - do it now ! And dispense with the notion that you need a "SAM" OLB chasing receivers all over the field in coverage; Ball can obviously cover some if he played some safety in the NFL anyways - and we know he can hit, tackle and make big plays on D.
Ball is a CFL free agent. That he made some great plays during the game that you saw is further evidence that a lot of good football players who are capable of playing in the NFL do get cut.
I would hope that Ball and Carter would give the Argos first shot at them considering that Jim Barker did them both a favour by granting their releases early so that they could go to the NFL.

Never said he definitely couldn't pay SAM, just not sure if he would be nearly as good there as he was at WILL. I would like to sign him and Carter as well, but one has to wonder if Barker will get the OK from Cheapskate crew cut...especially if they have good offers from other teams.
It's us vs the rest of the country
I think Jones flanked by Greenwood & Ball could be a very good linebacking corps (though Jones is maybe an average CFL MLB IMO); as far as OLB being so much a cover position by a lot of CFL defences now = garbage IMO; I want bigger play-making OLBs - guys who can hit, tackle and help run-stop and fight thru the line on blitzes. but who are still quick and can DROP in coverage too; if you need extra coverage - bring in a real DB with better coverage skills and line him up as a DB, rather than an OLB who has to turn his back right away and chase receivers from close to the line of scrimmage.
Henoc Muamba & Duron Carter cut by Indy apparently; now Muamba would be a nice signing, but a high price tag probably
Offer Muamba a low base contract this season with a big bonus which kicks in on Jan 1 (or whenever the ownership transfer officially happens).
I think Rod Black is doing cartwheels at the thought of calling more Carter games in the future.

I expect Carter to be kept around on the PR in Indy or get signed by another Team down there. Muamba being cut is a bit of a surprise and he could still be recalled or go on the PR, but he would command top dollar if he came back to the CFL.
Also see Canadian OLinemen Austin Pasztor, Brett Boyko, Matt ODonnell and David Foucault have been cut. Pasztor was a surprise as he has started for a couple of years. Boyko may well be kept around on the PR. ODonnell should wind up back in the CFL and Montreal may be able to lure Foucault up as he has had a year for the NFL to decide if he has what it takes. I believe Pasztor is Edmonton property, Boyko was drafted by Calgary and ODonnell should be a FA.
Dont know if the Argos have a shot at signing O Donnell or not, but he might want to come back home. Kind of came into his own last year in Edmonton I thought.
Muamba would be an amazing get, imagine Greenwood, Muamba, Miles, Tonye Tonye and Ball as our starting and backup linebackers.
Keep in mind some of these guys could get signed to practice rosters, which I believe pays $6,600 a week, or $112K annually if you stay on it all 16 weeks.
I'd love to see the Argos get Muamba, Carter and/or Ball could do for the Argos. Getting one of them would be good, two would be fantastic, although between NFL PRs and other CFL teams competing for players, the odds are not that great.
And that's a minimum. You can negotiate more.
Recent NFL roster moves with CFL connections:
-David Foucault added to Carolina's practice roster
-Austin Pasztor acquired on waivers by Cleveland from Jacksonville
-Duron Carter added to Indy's practice roster
-Brian Peters added to Minnesota's practice roster
-Brett Jones, NY Giants, placed on injured reserve
-Brett Boyko added to Philadelphia's practice roster
Ben Heenan was hurt early in Indy's camp and then cut, but apparently the Colts might bring him back when he gets healthy.
Put some bite in your bark, Barker. Burn up the phone lines and sign Muamba !!
bluto continually brought up on morningbigblue.com that Muamba would only sign with the Argonauts once he hit free agency, let's see if he's correct.
I suspect that Muamba will end up signing in Ottawa. Why do I think this? Just a hunch at this point. Carter and Ball are certainly both "gettable" IMO and the Argos need to try to sign both. Make an offer to Muamba as well but I suspect that Ottawa will be able to offer him more.
