I'd take either Van G or Crapigna. Maybe OV knows -- are there any decent kickers eligible for this year's draft?

If we have to dress an INT kicker it won't be the end of the world. For much of last season we dressed an INT who saw next to no action on anything other than ST (Cam McDaniel, Worthy). That position could be taken up by a kicker, and the NAT who replaces Lirim on the roster can take over the ST duties.

Not opposed if it's our best option. Obviously hypothetical as we don't know if he's even available, or what he would cost. Just threw his name out there since Sask is aware of what both guys can do. They might decide Van G is cheaper/better value than Crapigna. Who knows?

There's a kid out in CanWest - Strenger (Huskies) who has a booming punting leg (44+ yard average in CIS ball is outstanding), plus he had some good place-kicking #s the past couple of seasons; David Smith (Dartmouth) is a place-kicker who i think will be draftable.

Van G is the guy i'd like to see signed; Isn\t Pfeffer still on the roster? - he has CFL experience now and i believe has plenty of potential.

Been over this before - IMO way smarter to go with 2 seperate kickers (rather than one dual kicker) - sign a bunch of guys for TC (imports as well) and have real competition - and best punter AND best place-kicker get jobs.

Wouldn't that take jobs away from Canadians though ?

I agree though, the League should do away with the ratio, and the best players should make the roster and play. No more 21 Canadian quota or 7 starters.

LOL ! - the "best players" according to who? - Mavis Reed, Mr. Ed Hervey or Ego-Jones types? - they would gladly have zero Canadian players in TC to even compete for a spot (just like in the CFL's US expansion period - ZERO Canadians need apply)

I'd rather see players earn their spot, as opposed to being handed a roster spot, starting spot, and more money as Canadians seem to be. I think having Canadian players are important to have, but I've seen way too many times Canadians sticking around the CFL because of their passport and not their talent.

Of course you don't see it this way, as you seem to think, it's Americans who are handed spots, and also think it's a myth that Canadians make more money than their American counterparts. I would say go take a look at some of the reported deals today, but you think they're all lies written by media idiots.

Agreed. Consistency seems to be his issue from what I've seen, but with a leg like his, at least worth a look. A little surprised that Maher's name isn't coming up anywhere, some consistency issues, but at worst he's a slightly above average kicker IMO. Swayze Waters is also available, but I don't think he's worth a one year deal, let alone a ten year pact.

What your types just don't get: (without getting in to too much detail = not worth the effort)

    - American players ARE handed jobs, especially starting ones in the CFL - often 17 of them, where Canadian players are just not going to get to compete for playing time there because they are pencilled-in import only; and Americans are also pretty well guaranteed the maximum number of jobs on the roster as per the ratio (never the other way around where a team carries more than the minimum # of NIs) and these personnel decisions are made mostly by Americans who are proud members of the GOB club that ASSumes the CFL has to be that way - and crickets in reply when this little fact is mentioned.

    - American players earn / eat-up wayyyy more of a CFL team's $M$ space than Canadian players do; I do realize it is fashionable for dupes who buy what experts tell them to fret about, to rant & cry-baby over a few of these vastly over-paid , no-talent Canadian O-linemen - even when they have ZERO verified, documented CFL salary figures to go by; yet when the above CFL pay-day certainty (American players earn way more in total than Canadian ones do) is brought up in the oh, so over-paid Canadian discussion - again, gut-less crickets.

Your "thinking" there is right up the alley of some clueless dupes over at a certain CFL team forum - where some just love to spew tired, moronic cliches about the CFL, plus do anything to defend their poor little homer team. I'm very grateful we just don't have a bunch of idiots like that on this forum.
