Good idea to call tomorrow 'Toronto Argonauts' day. Showing some respect there.

So how was the parade? From what they were saying on TSN Radio late this afternoon, it sounded like there was a pretty sizable turnout today.

50,000 but I find that hard to believe unless they count those passing by the sidewalk but still an impressive number.

I believe that that is the number that was at the '83 Grey Cup victory parade.

Awesome crowd. Big turn out. Lets keep in mind most Argos fans are 905ers and people have to work for a living. Luckily i hung around town to take it in with the wife. we got separated and i got screamed at, but hey, thats another story. Overall i was very impressed as i approached bay and saw a wall of people on both sides.

Including people at the rally, onlookers and office building people i would gather we were looking at around 50 thou. Lets not nit pick here people over a couple thousand here or there. The TO media will do enough of that.

Great to hear there was a large crowd. Hopefully, it means more fans at the games next year in a city where no other team seems capable of winning a championship in the last 20 years while the Argos have had four.

about what we had in 2010 in montreal. It's impressive but I've seen bigger. We had 250,000 in 2002. Something positive for Rob Ford for a change.

I would take any crowd estimate, from any source, with a huge grain of salt. Police and some media outlets are prone to overstate crowd estimates, often by a lot. Police used to routinely say that two million people went to the Santa Claus parade -- a figure that I believe was massively exaggerated. To come up with a figure that is reasonably close to accurate, there has to be some science to the count. I would bet there was no scientific basis for any estimate that was given yesterday. By simply looking at the crowds as shown on TV coverage (two stations with different vantage points) I feel confident in asserting it was well below the 100,000 that CP24 apparently claimed.

As I recall, the media estimated 60,000 in 1983, and the throng on Bay Street for that seemed a lot bigger than yesterday's crowd, judging by video and pictures of both. That is not to say yesterday's parade was a bust -- drawing a good-sized and very enthusiastic crowd in the middle of a workday is a significant accomplishment. It is simply to suggest that the estimate of 100,000 likely has no basis in fact other than just a wild (and I would bet wildly inaccurate) guess.

Further to your post, Paul, CITY-TV estimated that there were 7k in Nathan Phillips Square and 3k along the parade route. So I guess that it was somewhere between 10k and 100k that attended yesterday's festivities then. :)

I also heard different counts to include several hundred fans at city hall from City TV, no kidding as being Rogers, with a further few thousand along the route?
But I did hear the 50k amount along the route from Global TV and TSN.

I watched the parade at Bay & Wellington and then walked up to Nathan Phillips Square. Impressive crowd along Bay street and way more people in the Square than back in '04. Nice to see Toronto paying attention to the team.

50,000 is great for a weekday downtown. If you don't work down there, getting downtown during weekdays is frustrating, difficult, and confusing - and the "regulars" don't help matters by honking at those who are trying to figure out where they are! LOL

Who honestly cares about the crowd size. We will never know the actual number anyways. There was a good turn out. Period. Good for the Argos, cfl and toronto.
