Hawkins did a TERRIBLE job at Colorado. This is a very odd hire, and imo, a very poor hire.

Popp says it's not official but still remains a candiate.

I doubt that herb would lay his journalistic credo on the line with this one. Besides it's already written on dan's wiki page.

I guess they'll announce it next week unless Popp decides to hire Zorn just to make Herb look bad.

Sitting on the outside, looking at Hawkins poor record at Colorado and lack of pro coaching experience, I would have preferred Zorn for his record as a qb, pro coach and relationship with Calvillo. However, it is always difficult to judge such things from the outside where so much is unknown.

I would have went with Zorn as well but what do I know? I'm guessing Hawkins must have had an impressive interview. Maybe Hawkins is asking for a lower salary while Zorn has NFL experience and may expect a higher wage.

dan was his coach during his 3 years at boise state. as long as he stays off the field we'll be ok.

I actually thought north cowichan was more.....y'know....north.

They have put together an interesting staff. They do have a fair bit of CFL experience but I would be concerned about the lack of experience in Canadian football that both the offensive coordinator and special teams coordinator have. This all could turn out to be another stroke of genius by Jim Popp or a complete disaster. Time will tell.

Even if they don't have CFL experience the OC and STC have a pretty impressive pedigree with their super bowl appearances. Like with Trestman the players have to feel valued to be working with such top notch folk. Berry will do what Paopao did in 2008 and we all know how that turned out.

I just watched Hawkins' press conference and, if nothing else, he will be very quotable and entertaining to have around the CFL.

I'm biased as Hawkins did an awful job at Colorado and that's stuck in my mind as someone who follows the Big 12, so I think this may turn out to be a disaster of a hire. Will be interesting to see.

Speaking of Paopao he's just been named HC of the Waterloo Warriors.
