Awesome, I like the sound !

I'll try to check them out. Can't remember if Lee's (Lee's Palace) has a patio (they didn't before, I'll call 'em tomorrow), but any bar that'll allow us to step out for a smoke, with a beer in hand, will be an option.

Perhaps a sleazy weekend/week in Ham or Peterborough, or a field trip to Kingston is in order !

I'm a big fan and they never play a bad gig. Last May my wife and I did a night in Victoria and then followed them over to Vancouver for the next night. I have all of their music. Too bad most people don't know or hear about the so many bands that play great music that don't make it huge. For example one of lead singer Eddie Spaghetti of the Supersuckers is a great friend of Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. Supersuckers have always been on the edge of big things.

Throughout the last three hours, while I was drinking (semi-mildly) and checking out/catching up on this Forum, I've had the Supersuckers (on You-tube) playing on a second browser window. I see what you mean. These guys are RAW. Amazing that after all of these years, Bands still find a way to kick it!

(And great music, too.)

Any Man, or Woman, can call themselves a Kozak, or a Klingon;

Living up to it, is another matter....

In reality, a Samurai would consider these fighters as "play-actors", or dancers.

While I am not Samurai, I have studied (mostly through books) their traditions.

And mindset.

I did train in Hapkido, a Korean Martial Art, when I was in my early teens.

It was a base. A ground, from which at least I gained an insight into sparring.

The Samurai do not spar. They do not feint, nor have a need to.

They are still and silent. One thrust. One cut. And it is over.

I have always respected the Japanese traditions, because of their cold-blooded simplicity.

Do nothing, that you don't have to. Just do what you have to.

This applies to Life, and to Sex, and to Happiness.

I am only a beginner. I will be a beginner for eternity.

That is the proper mindset.

For anyone interested, if I had to pick three Martial Arts books, they would be :

Autumn Lightning : The Education of an American Samurai , by Dave Lowry.

Sword and Brush : The Spirit of the Martial Arts , by Dave Lowry.

Zen in the Martial Arts , by Joe Hyams.

Normally, at a certain point of the thread, like probably around now, I would thank the thread starter, and/or the original poster, for letting me off with (slightly) hijacking this thread. But since 1argoholic started this thread, there is no need to. He and I, share the same blood type. K. As in Kozak. And while he may from the northern fringes (Belarus), and my ancestry from the southern steppes (actually western Carpathian Mountains) of the Ukraine (Ukraina), our intent is similar. We are here to Rock You.

Admittedly, there aren't many Bands who can follow The Supersuckers, but it's a large Planet, and Raw Rock is the next best thing coming. But what fascinates me, is that this kind of music has always been here, if occasionally in slightly different forms.

Zanshin : the relaxed, alert mind; ready for anything. Especially self-defense combat.

Mushin : the art of being aware of everything, while distracted by nothing.
