Looks like someone is trying to start a Spring football league (http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/cfl-55-yard-line/spfl-could-next-long-line-alternative-football-leagues-090946193.html;_ylt=Ap0MadV271cxCt56DIr.qOapYQM6) in the U.S. Don't know if this one will even get off the ground or how long it will last, but don't think anyone should really be concerned. Should also point out that the NFL is very interested in a Spring time D-League, and the UFL is looking at a format to operate during the Spring as well, but their Commish has just resigned from his post (http://www.lvrj.com/sports/ufl-commissioner-huyghue-steps-down-138436434.html) and all indications are pointing to the League completely folding.

The UFL has lost more than $150 million in its three years of operation. Last season, it operated with four franchises -- Las Vegas, Sacramento, Omaha and Virginia -- playing an abbreviated four-game schedule with no national TV contract. Is it just me or does the U.S. have an endless supply of rich and possibly dumb guys who like football?

As for this SPFL spring league, the CFL survived the USFL so I can't see a new league with far more modest ambitions have much if any effect.

I'm getting more curious about this league, so off to Google. These leagues seem to be recruiting younger and younger players by the year: http://www.spfl.org/
