We held a try-out event (http://www.wgrz.com/news/article/227726/37/Trying-Out-for-the-Toronto-Argonauts-in-South-Buffalo) yesterday, to my surprise. Have we done these so late in the year in the past? This report doesn't say anything about the quality of the candidates that showed up, but I wonder if this is why we've been leaving our PR half-empty recently.

I guess if there are any signings from this camp we'll hear about it fairly soon.

They must have a good number of NFL cuts they want to take a closer look at before adding five more bodies to the Practice Roster. Tomorrow the PR's expand to twelve. In the past I believe the Argos used to bring guys in, work them out, put some on the PR, or sign some for next year and send them home. Maybe this tryout in Buffalo is just a new way of doing things.

If the U.S. government "shuts down" tonight, that could cause some problems for all CFL teams as my understanding is that passports cannot be issued. That will present a challenge in getting some import players up for a look.

Regarding this Buffalo try-out, I don't recall hearing of any such events during the season. I didn't think that the Argos started their try-out camps until December.

Searching reveals that we held one last year on Aug 21 (http://web.archive.org/web/20120919110117/http://argonauts.ca/page/free-agent-camps), so I guess this isn't totally unprecedented.
