Where did that list come from? I noticed at least one error after a quick look (Ted Laurent is an Eskimo).

Marcus Ball is not a FA? Our FA list isn't as bad as I feared. Watkins and Inman are top priorities. McCune can walk if we can pick up another LB. Waters may take another shot down south, NFL teams bring in new kickers every week.

Things will not be as bad for Ottawa after all as some teams do not have that many free agents. Argos need to resign Watkins, Waters, Rempel, Robinson and Inman. Bradwell and Lee if they come at a reasonable price. From other teams FA's I wouldn't mine seeing DE Keron Williams, DT Ted Laurent, Henoc Muamba, and CB Joe Burnett picked up by the Argos. Kory Sheets and Winston Dressler would be nice as well but that would be dreaming.

Shea Emry and Kyries Hebert would be on my list of guys the Argos should have a serious look at!!!

Excluding the expansion draft, Argos need to focus on the D-Line, MLB (depending what will happen with McCune) and DBs. Pretty much the whole defence. Going after a non import offence lineman wouldn't hurt. Problem is the Ottawa draft is real and will change the whole gameplan.

Knowing Barker he won't after big name players. He'll be signing more of a backup type through free agency, most likely non-imports.

Before signing anyone, you have to hire your defensive co-ordinator and figure out what his needs are.

Decent talent would be a start!!

McCune should't be allowed to walk.......He in my opinion is one of the top priorities to get back.

It will be an interesting off season that is for sure. Lets see how this unfolds......

Shea Emry and Kyries Hebert would be on my list of guys the Argos should have a serious look at!!!I think the Argos need big time help on D....specifically the Secondary. I'd look at Joe Burnett who was very strong for the Eskimos last season, and look at this young DB, Ed Gainey who played mostly special teams with Montreal for the last 2 years. He's had 2 fumble recoveries and was getting some time on the corner for the Als later in this 2013 season.

DE Kenny Mainor was on a lousy Bomber team, but I thought he had noticeable talent. He may have taken a few dumb penalties, but that was the culture of the Winnipeg dressing room as they were undisciplined as a team. I also remember Mainor as one of their stronger pass rush players who could battle his way through blocks to get to the QB. The Argos poor pass rush lacking any speed was severely exposed in the second half of that Eastern Final loss. Mainor might not be an improvement for the defence overall, but he will definitely push guys in the competition process at training camp and that level of competition needs to be promoted in camp so that veterans don't get too comfortable and complacent. ... I think he can eventually replace or even beat out guys on our D-line now.

Lets see how this unfolds......I can't figure out some peoples opinions on this board...Watt is regarded as untouchable, yet McCune and Kackert should be left to walk...are these people kidding...these 2 guys were sorely missed in that playoff loss.

If another team offers more money for McCune and we have a chance to sign a young non-import LB like Muamba then I have no problem with not retaining McCune. McCune will be 35 next season. I think not going after a CDN like Muamba is foolish. Simoni Lawrence is another younger option. Every player is replaceable. Just because McCune was missed doesn't mean we can't make changes via free agency. That's what free agency is all about.

As for Watt, he's the far side receiver. Can you even name one receiver who is on the far side and has had a better season? I won't say Watt is great but I still don't understand your view.

Bring Muamba in, but not at the expense of having McCune signed as that would even hurt Muamba's development as a potential leader on D.

As for Watt, read the thread that addresses that situation, where I think Bradwell should be developed as an inside receiver because of his hands and where Watt's position would be taken by Owens, whose getting killed on a game by game basis playing in the inside receiver position.

The deal regarding Kackert is pretty simple, health.
Serious knee injury, shoulder injury, concussion and finally from all reports gruesome ankle injury and surgery, you can't seriously enter next season expecting the Kackert of 2012, that would be foolish. Argonauts must heavily recruit some running backs for training camp!!

Muamba is a FA no? - and rumored to give the NFL a shot? Anyhow, and sorry - already a superior MLB vs, McCune - faster, more athletic, makes more big plays - and - younger and a NI; IF the Argos have a shot at signing him as a FA = go for it; but then what if Greenwood comes free and reports from the NFL? - though totally unproven in the CFL a potential stud MLB - no room for both those guys unless one can play at OLB (could be i guess but not in most CFL Ds now that favor lightweight coverted US safeties at OLB).

Again - keep McCune around for leadership and maybe a versatile guy who could play both at MLB or DE in some packages, but IMO an upgrade over him at MLB is quite do-able perhaps.

Maybe they should rethink that policy Gabe, some of the names on this list would definitely help to retool the defence!!

It all has to do with the salary cap. Why overpay for a proven CFL player when you can bring in a rookie for the minimum price. Not that I agree with this model. If we go hard to sign someone like Muamba then I'm guessing someone like McCune won't be re-signed because we won't be able to afford both. Lots of good FAs out there, only problem is how many will be re-signed before they hit the open market. I believe players will wait for the new CBA.

For sure, if they are selective and smart about it these signings make sense, agree with you in regards to Muamba, that's the type of guy you go after, proven starter, NI and entering his prime. Sign 2-3 guys like that then compliment with the college recruits from tryout camps etc.

I believe players will wait for the new CBA.

The rub is that the new CBA may not be signed until June. This off-season becomes a little more challenging for everyone as a result but I would assume that we will see the salary cap go from the current $4.4 million to in the neighbourhood of $5 million.

It would be great if someone tracked all the tyrouts. Found this at the bottom of an article. A few certain Vikings fans might be pleased with an Inman signing.

The Vikings also worked out wide receivers Dontrelle Inman (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/25120), Chris Matthews (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/25594) and Nick Moore (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/9598) and defensive tackle Ted Laurent.

More like "loaned" Inman to the NFL.

12-24-2013, 07:18 AM
According to Google, Inman has worked out for at least three teams, most recently the Broncos (who also worked out Muamba). I guess he has quietly been offered a contract by one of them, to be announced after the season. He'll be missed, at least for the first half of the season, and it would not surprise me if he sticks down there because of his athleticism. Good thing we did not lose any import receivers in the expansion draft.

OV Argo
12-24-2013, 12:36 PM
Hey - what happened with Iglesias or Darvin Adams ? - released or didn't want to stick around as back-ups ? One of those guys might have stepped into the starting 5 pack nicely to replace Inman.

Still think the Argos can have a very solid to league best type receiving corps - with Owens, Durie, Chiles, possibly Barnes and/or Watt ... and maybe a new import receiver has a great TC; or Bradwell or Feoli-Gudino get some opportunity; or even draft a young receiver prospect.

paulwoods13

I'd bring both Iglesias and Adams back to camp. Romby Bryant also merits another crack.

ArgoRavi
12-24-2013, 01:19 PM
Iglesias was released at mid-season while Adams was released after the regular season when practice rosters were reduced. I am guessing that Adams is the more likely of the two to return considering when he was let go.
