Hopefully Area 51 doesn't yell at me to go to a Math board :D, but assuming Ray makes $400K, we have $3.95 million to pay 45 other players?

If that is correct, that leaves an average of $87K per player.

I'm guessing Boyd makes around $98, Barnes $120 and I think Owens makes around $130 (overpaid), Huntley is over $100K, and not sure who else is in the Argos over $100K club.

On the other board we had a thread of highest paid Argos, but I can't recall who they are?

Boyd makes 90 K, Owens 125 but including bonus' goes up to 175K (agreed overpaid IMO), Barnes over 100 K haven't hard the numbers though. I always thought that Ray contract went down to 375 K, when his deal was renegotiated it was said he took a 75-100 k pay cut.

No worries, this math actually has merit in a football related discussion.

You can add Ricky Foley to the $100k + club. Was reported he was between $125 and $150 when he signed. I know Murphy was said to be close to $200k - - way too much for what he provides at this point in his career.

Any exercise in trying to speculate on player salaries is purely guess work. I can't figure out why the CFLPA doesn't make player salaries public knowledge. This would be a great benefit to the players and also give fans an idea of what their team's cap situation was. Doesn't matter what business it is - - any kind of secrecy around salaries ALWAYS hurts the employees and benefits the owners. NHL is a perfect example of this.

Foley is making $150k base salary (incl. signing bonuses), his salary details were fully disclosed last year.

While some media claim Ray's salary is $400k, a reliable source reported his base salary at $430k, down from $515k in 2010. When Ray came back from the NFL he signed a 4-year deal with a $250k signing bonus and a $400k base salary (or $460k per season)...and he's been paid about that amount ever since.

Boyd and Owen's contract details were also published last year, with Boyd signing for $100k (incl. a huge signing bonus).

TSN has learned that Owens' signing bonus is over $50,000, which means with incentives, Owens could earn as much as $175,000 for the upcoming season.
If we dissect the TSN report, Owens' base salary would be under $100,000.

"As much as $175k" minus "over $50k bonus" and achieved maximum incentives ($30k?) = $95k salary.

Other media reports had Owen's salary at $150k plus $50k signing bonus, which is not believable. Owens had an offer from the Jets last year, which he turned down to sign in Toronto, inflating his value.

I don't think J. Barnes would command a $120k salary quite yet, closer to $90k, I'd believe.

Foley is making well into the six figures and I would imagine that Prefontaine is as well. Durie is probably around the $100k mark by now.

NHL salaries are always released, there's even a website. www.capgeek.com (http://www.capgeek.com)

I realize this. That's my point. It wasn't always this way - - NHL salaries were top secret until the late 80's, just as the CFl salaries are now. Once the NHLPA released the info player salaries suddenly took off. They realized what the owners were pulling in and how little they were paying the players. Still remember how shocked everyone was to see what Gretzky was making.

Sources ???????

I was just editing my above post to add sources, so I'll include a revision here.

TSN has learned that Owens' signing bonus is over $50,000, which means with incentives, Owens could earn as much as $175,000 for the upcoming season.

Owen's 3-year deal had some wild variations published, but I believe the TSN quote above as the most reliable.

So $175k minus ($60k signing bonus and $20k incentives) = $95k base salary. $60k signing bonus amortized over 3 years = $20k per season. Which pegs his salary at $115k plus incentives.

Here is Foley's contract details which shows a $145k base salary for 2012:

The #Argos have agreed to terms on a 3-year extension w/ RB Cory Boyd (incl/ an option). With signing bonus work just under $100k per. #CFL
