The former Tiger-Cat and Rough Rider has died: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/former-ticat-al-brenner-dies-at-age-64/article2340078/

This article doesn't do justice to Brenner's interesting past however. He disappeared from the Burlington GO station back in the early 1980s and went missing for some time. The Fifth Estate did a feature on him recently which should still be available on their website (it was a show on people who had gone missing and Brenner was one of the three people featured in that episode).

I never saw Brenner play, but have read about his heroics. I did see that Fifth Estate episode. Very interesting to say the least, just up & left his family.

It will be interesting to see if his family has his brain examined for the effects of CTE from numerous concussions as he exhibited symptoms over the last three decades or so that others who have been diagnosed with CTE also exhibited (e.g. depression, substance abuse, erratic behaviour).
