The Toronto Furies are cup bound in Markham tomorrow at 2PM at the Centennial Centre after a thrilling shootout victory over Montreal this afternoon.
They will face defending champs Boston Blades for their first ever title. Spooner with the game winner.
A little history: Beatrice Aeros won the NWHL cup in the league's first 3 years of existence (2000-02)
Toronto Aeros were the last to win that trophy in 2005. The NWHL dissolved after 2007 and the CWHL was born with the recent Clarkson Cup (there was one named for the 2007 NWHL title) introduced in the 2009 championship won by Montreal in Kingston.
First there were the Mississauga Chiefs who lost in the final to Brampton in 2008 then to cup winning Minnesota in the semi in 2010.
The Furies were born at the end of the 2011 season after the team returned to the Toronto name and went nameless for the season. They would lose 5-0 to Montreal in the final.
Come one, come all. I'll be in attendance with my mom. May not be Lord Stanley's mug but any sports title is always a welcome boon. :hi:
