ARGONAUTS WR OWENS TO HAVE MRI ON LEFT FOOT LATER MONDAY:

http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=457207

He certainly seems to be having a tough time staying healthy the past couple of seasons.

EDIT: Also "In other injury news, Canadian defensive back Matt Black will miss the next six weeks for Toronto with a fractured forearm while wide receiver Jason Barnes is also slated to have an MRI on his knee later Monday."

So now potentially our top three receivers are out of the lineup. Just great.

Not good news!

We can beat Ottawa without Owens. I think.

Other guys have to step up. Were we not without both Owens and Durie during that four game road winning streak last fall?

That's going to be tough on the offense. Owens has been the go to guy so far for Ricky. Wonder if Jeremiah Johnson could play slot, he has speed and shiftiness in the open field. I would like to see Slaton get a shot at RB, he runs harder than Johnson north/south.

Tough to lose 3 quality receivers (Owens, Durie & Barnes), but IMO the Argos have depth at this position.

Coombs in for Durie (he's a Durie clone type - maybe not as dangerous yet and lacks the experience, but still a threat if they get him the ball in short throws that work so well for Durie); still got Chiles & Watt; get Sinkfield in there - very impressive in pre-season; bigger role for Adams, AND - give more playing time to Bradwell (experienced, good route runner & hands) = the Argos should be fine at receiver - hopefully Ray shows some faith in the young guys and does not over-load on Chiles as the guy he trusts.

Have to think the O-Line can hold up against an iffy Ottawa D, plus the run game can work too (more than 5 or 6 carries to whoever is playing tailback, please).

It can be good to get the younger guys some experience, that's for sure.

Regarding Chiles, I believe that he only has three catches so far this season so I hope that he is more involved in the offence on Friday night.

I would love to see them use Bradwell for making tough catches in traffic over the middle like Barnes does. He does line up at the TE position sometimes doesn't he?

But, and I saw this last game, is there any play more useless then dumping a 2-yd checkdown to Mike Bradwell? Has the guy ever beat the first tackler in his career? It's like throwing a checkdown to a telephone pole with good hands.

We were shocked they didn't put Natey Adjei into the offence on Saturday. Especially now, with the loss of Durie and Owens, they need the wheels, and I would definitely put him in ahead of Bradwell in certain situations.

Adjei is so, so raw though. Milanovich was talking about Sinkfield a few days ago and mentioned that he still had a lot to learn and would need to be eased gradually into the lineup, but he at least played a lot in college.

Bradwell at least knows what he's doing and is unlikely to make a mistake.

I'm not sure playing it completely safe is the best prescription for the Argos current inability to score TDs.

Playing it safe is our coach's game plan. It's the reason that we lost the ECF last year. Hamilton got aggressive, we went conservative. Even last game he only decided to start going for it when it was already to late.

I heard on AM640 this morning that the MRI results were inconclusive and they don't know if Owens will play on Friday.

Well they did try to throw a 10 yd slant route to him, but he had zero separation from the DB, and it was easily batted down. Regarding the play selection last game, the Argos had very few chances to throw deep. Rich Stubler has always played the not give up a big pass play defence, and it's no different now. Unfortunately, with Durie out and Owens injured in game, the Argos just didn't have the guys that turn short passes into big gains.

Mid foot injuries suck, currently recovering from one myself. (Foot was stepped on during a flag football game)

It's been a month and just now starting to walk normally, I doubt i'll be back for any of my summer sports and maybe even my fall football league. So much going on in the foot with all the bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments.

I saw on TSN that Owens has been placed on the 6 Game injured list.

6 games???? He can come off that list early if he's healed though right?
