I wasn't sure where to put this as he technically played for the Argos in the 50's, but it more known for being the coach of the Tiger-Cats during the 1980's. He became Tiger-Cat head coach midway through the 1983 season and Hamilton gave the Argos all they could handle in the 1983 Eastern Final. He then subsequently led the Tiger-Cats to three straight Grey Cup appearances from 1984-1986 winning the 1986 game 39-15 over the Eskimos. He also coached the Ticats in the 1989 Grey Cup where they lost to Saskatchewan.

Al Bruno added a great deal to the CFL over many years!
R.I.P.

I always loved his composure and sense of humor even when things weren't going well.

Who can ever forget those wonderful battles between the Bruno and O'Billovich during the 1980s? That was a great decade in the rivalry between the Ticats and Argos. I can still hear the late Dick Beddoes talking on CHCH about Albert Bruno and Obie Obilovich. Sorry to hear of Bruno's passing.

Upsetting Argos in '84 EFC saved his job. '84 Argo team may have been the best of the 80s. Certainly not an xs and Os man, definitely not cereberal but got players beliving they could win and not every coach can do that over a significant length of time like Bruno did.

A class act. When my son was two years old I took him to an Argo game at Ex Stadium. We were heading in, David decked up in a cute Argo outfit, when Al walked past us towards the press box entrance. Even tho David was obviously cheering for the enemy, Al gave him a huge grin. Also, he was great (albeit a bit hard of hearing) when I interviewed him for my book on the 1983 Argos.

Condolences to the Bruno family.
As the coach of our arch rivals, I had nothing but respect for him!
One of his best quotes was before the 83 eastern final I believe.
Something like this.
“The Argonaut players use pink toilet paper….our players use sandpaper!”
Still makes me laugh. He brought so much to the rivalry.
