Ticats had a very healthy turnout at today's open practice at Tim Hortons field, great to see 4-5 fans there wearing their Argonaut attire representing our team!!

The Eskimos have some significant injuries (http://3downnation.com/2015/06/07/costly-camp-day-for-esks/). I'm not *happy* that one of the top RBs in the league is injured, but since we got stuck with a "home opener" in Alberta, the universe owes us this!

I would rather see us win the game by 7 touchdowns and have Edmonton's QB throw 8 interceptions than see a guy have a potentially career-ending injury.

In addition to all-star White, all-star Almondo Sewell is also banged up. That's another key guy for the Eskimos we (probably) won't have to face in game 1. They still have five all-stars left, mind you...

Ottawa is continuing to bring new players into TC in the hopes of improving their roster.

The cut-throat side of pro football showed itself again at Ottawa Redblacks training camp.
• On Monday, when the Canadian Football League (http://ottawacitizen.com/tag/Canadian-Football-League) team was in Hamilton for a pre-season contest against the Tiger-Cats, Cameron Clemmons agreed to terms on a contract.
• On Tuesday, when those Redblacks (http://ottawacitizen.com/tag/ottawa-redblacks) who played in the 37-10 loss to the Tiger-Cats returned to Ottawa by bus and train, Clemmons flew into the city.
• On Wednesday, Clemmons was on the field at Carleton University to practise with the Redblacks, joined by fellow offensive lineman Jake Silas, receiver Brelan Chancellor and defensive back Lew Toler.
Also on the field, but only observing because a hamstring problem kept him from passing the physical exam, was defensive back Travell Dixon.
Not there were offensive linemen Jake Cotton and Timothy Mitchell and University of Ottawa quarterback Derek Wendel, who had been released.
Whether any of the newcomers would play in the Redblacks’ final pre-season game against the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday is unknown. There’s only one more full practice Thursday and a short “walk-through” on Friday before a bus ride to Quebec City. ...

If we give (the newcomers) a crash course and they can understand enough, then we would take a look at them,” Campbell said.

While the RedBlacks have undoubtedly improved, I do wonder whether they have enough depth to be a genuine contender this season.

Here's a report on day 12 of the Alouette TC.

A trend that many have seemed to notice since the beginning of this 2015 camp is all the time that has been allocated to small details that make big differences. The special teams have been the subject of great attention since the arrival of coordinator Kavis Reed. The team's players have come together on numerous occasions to give special teams the much needed atention it deserves in three-down football and everything seems to already run smoothly. Reed has been able to quickly establish his philosophy, which the group has bought in to since day one.
Rapid fire
International defensive end Brian Brikowski was back on the field with his teammates as he had been forced to watch the action from the sidelines over the past few days… Another sign that a game is just around the corner is the fact that the Alouettes practiced in the red zone for quite some time on Thursday… Fred Stamps made a nice grab before shaking off the player assigned to cover him to score a touchdown, an entire sequence which he made look so effortless.
Transactions
Prior to jumping on the field, the Alouettes proceeded to a few transactions as the club added national defensive tackle Asante Mizan (6’01’’, 293 lbs.) to the roster. Last season, he cumulated 24 tackles and one sack in eight games with the Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks. The club also placed quarterback Tanner Marsh and defensive end Aaron Lavarias on the six-game injured list.

I expect that the BC Lions will have a rather tough time winning this season.

It will be interesting to see if "old school" coaches Tedford and Cortez get the most out of their players through intense conditioning or a player rebellion, both in the short-term and long-term.

But, well, there was a new head coach in town, Jeff Tedford, with a reputation for whip-cracking and a new offensive coordinator, George Cortez, with a buttoned-down personality different from the previous one. ...
At first, Tedford was so demanding in practice that he alienated some Lions veterans unused to the pace. Harris had to leave one workout early after his hamstrings started to seize up. Yet, immersed in making his team the best-conditioned in the Canadian Football League, Tedford had the sensitivity to know when he scale back the workload.
“At first, everyone was thinking, ‘Well, this is different,’” Harris explained. “A lot of guys didn’t like it too much. He was hard on us for the first couple of days. A lot of guys said the Day Two practice was the hardest of their lives. As we went along, he tapered back a bit. He responded to our bodies, and how we were feeling. I think the trust level from player to coach is great. I think the trust from coach to player is great as well.” ...
A disciplinarian, technician and systematic details guy, Tedford was greatly attuned with Lulay’s situation, never pushing him too hard, knowing when to ease back, even when the player wanted to do more. The quarterback agreed with Harris that getting buy-in from the players is smart coaching.
“There’s a difference between him trying to be a ‘nice guy’ and doing what’s best for the team,” Lulay said. “We worked like crazy, when we worked. But when he sensed it was before time to pull back the tempo, or the time on our feet, that was to make us better. Recovery is a legitimate part of what we’re doing.’
