In theory, the Stamps shouldn't have too much trouble on the road against Ottawa.

Winnipeg and Edmonton should be an interesting game. I think Edmonton's defense pulls it out in a low scoring contest.

It would be nice for the Riders to go 0-5 even if it is at the hands of Hamilton.

The two teams I hate the most are Hamilton and Saskatchewan. The funny thing about the Riders is that they were probably my second or third favourite team until about 10 years ago. I am having a difficult time getting over my hatred of the Blue Bombers now that they are no longer in our division. I never hated them until 1987 when they entered the East Division and have pretty much despised them since. I have to remind myself now that I don't need to hate them any longer.

Anyway, I will likely pick Calgary and Edmonton to win their games. The game in Regina is a real toss-up and I will have to think a bit more about that one.

The Riders pretty much have to win this game. To go 0-5 to start, with 4 of those games being at home, would be a disaster. If they lose, I honestly see a MAX 6 win season in their future because they have traditionally been much better at home than on the road.

I think they were everybody's favorite team until they won the 2007 Grey Cup. The attention the Riders get from the league really increased after that and that is the reason that many people dislike the team. It is so extreme for me that, yes, I will prefer a Ticat win over them!

I disliked the Blue Bombers severely in 2006-2007 when the Argos played them twice in the playoffs. But, once the Argos started sucking in 2008 and the Blue Bombers started having their issues the dislike decreased.

Sask is reminding me of the 1981 Argo's who lost the first 3 games by a combined total of 5 points....(then the season went to sh*t)

The Redblack Stamps game was an excellent game to watch ..hoping no cross over this year.... I thought Argo's and riders would fall behind but they are putting lots of pressure the Cats and Als... its really interesting in the East this year ... now just need Argos to win tonight.... go ARGOS !!!

WOW, another great overtime game, as the Redblacks beat the Stampeders in OT. Good Henry showed up tonite with close to 400 yards passing -- 3 TD's and no INT's. Cornish left the game injured but had been ineffective up to that point with only 20 yards on 7 carries. Whiteside had a huge game on the D line for Ottawa - 2 tackles - 2 forced fumbles - 2 sacks and 1 fumble recovery - I guess he won't be coming back to the Argos.

Great to see the East doing so well against the West this year and to see Ottawa improving so much

An overtime field goal by Delbert Alvarado and three-touchdown performance by Henry Burris helped the Ottawa REDBLACKS stun the reigning grey cup champion Calgary Stampeders in a 29-26 overtime thriller on Friday night at TD Place.
With the win, the REDBLACKS have surpassed the number of victories that they had in total last season.Burris was 28-for-43 with 389 yards in the victory while opposing quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell was also impressive at 23-for-41 with 318 yards and one touchdown.
Wide receiver Chris Williams was outstanding for the REDBLACKS with seven catches for 162 yards and one touchdown.

Interesting to see so many of our cuts and free agents helping other teams now. Barker has not only recruited well for the Argos but for the rest of the league also. ;)

Ottawa won in the end, but they were screwed by not getting that two-point convert which they clearly deserved. If Calgary had returned that fumble all the way, then they would have been screwed out of two points.

Something the league needs to clarify since a situation like this could decide an important late-season or playoff game.

Can the Bombers finally win in Edmonton?

The last victory for Winnipeg in the city of Edmonton was way back in July of 2006. But a lot has changed since then.
While the Eskimos swept the season series in 2014 and held the Bombers to only 12 points through two contests, the message coming from the Bombers has been consistent.
Every year is a new year.
Drew Willy admits that the team has looked at the tape to study why the team struggled on offence in those games but knows that one of the main differences this year is the team’s offensive line.
He’s enjoying his remade unit to the tune of 913 passing yards through three and a half games (he left the team’s loss to Hamilton midway through).
“They’ve done a good job. It’s fun to be back there. The guys are great,” said Willy of his o-line. “Communication’s been really high this year. We’ve been really going over blitz looks every single week since training camp, every single day, so I think that’s really helped in our communication.”

Chris Jones will be up to his new tricks today.

Chris Jones loves scheming unique ways to bring pressure. Edmonton’s head coach is like the mad scientist of blitzes. He’s always working on his next crazy concoction to confuse and stun opposing offences.
In the Eskimos’ home-and-home sweep of Ottawa, Jones’ defence regained its swagger after being sliced and diced for 484 total yards in Week 1 by the Argos – Trevor Harris threw for 357 yards and three touchdowns and Brandon Whitaker carried 14 times for 117 yards. Edmonton rang up five sacks, three interceptions and allowed just one offensive touchdown combined in two wins against the REDBLACKS. An impressive display from Jones’ aggressive defence is the main reason why the Eskimos sit at 2-1.

Tomorrow Saskatchewan will be attempting to shut down the Tiger-Cats Brandon Banks.

If Brandon Banks' ears were burning this past week, it's because he has been the topic of many conversations at Saskatchewan Roughriders practices.
The high-flying kick returner and his Hamilton Tiger-Cats make their first visit this season to Mosaic Stadium for a Sunday evening showdown with the Riders.
Banks is the CFL's premier playmaker on special teams with two punt return touchdowns and 343 combined return yards through three games. Odds are probable that he'll run into another special teams guru in the Riders' Dylan Aimsworth.
Drafted 11th overall by the Riders in the 2014 draft, the Western University product leads the league with seven special teams tackles. He'll be keeping an eye on Banks in Saskatchewan's Week 5 matchup with the Ticats (1-2).

Although Saskatchewan is 0-4, they have won of the most prolific offences ever, at least in terms of yardage so far this season. Of course giving up the most points in the league has something to do with that.

Saskatchewan at 504 net yards per game: The 1990-94 era of the CFL game is when most team offence records were set; In 1991, BC set the single-season record of an unbelievable 506.5 yards per game. That era was referred to as “Basketball on Grass” and the top three single game averages all come from that time. In 1991, BC started with four straight 500+ yard games averaging 523 per game through Week #4. In 2015, Saskatchewan has the second-highest average ever after four weeks at 503.5.

I was expecting a much tighter game between Edmonton and Winnipeg, and I guess that's what it really was until Brian Brohm entered the game for the Blue Bombers. I've heard that it is McManus who is high on him, but I'm not sure why. James Franklin may have very well also won the starter's job in Edmonton.

The Riders are like the 2012 Tiger-Cats. They can score like crazy and be scored on even crazier.

Does anyone see a Winnipeg team in 2015 that is much better than the 2014 version? Brohm, btw, has been a pro QB for eight years and never thrown a TD pass in either the NFL or CFL. For an 8-year veteran, he looks like a timid, overwhelmed rookie right out of university.

The first 10 minutes may tell the story tonight, Riders are a desperate and fragile football team right now and must get off to a strong start or they may be in for a long night (and 0-5).
As we all know Kevin Glenn shows flashes of brilliance but ultimately crashes down to earth when the stakes are high.
The nice thing is our team has already banked the win this weekend so we can relax and enjoy tonight's game and hope the Argonauts are sharp next week in Hamilton!!

Gotta feel sorry for the Cats. As Drew Edwards pointed out yesterday (http://3downnation.com/2015/07/25/riders-under-pressure-as-ticats-come-to-town/), they are the first team in CFL history to start their season with four straight road games. That must be tough.

Will

Edwards isn't the first person to try to perpetrate that narrative recently. I heard Rod Black mention it a few weeks back as well as the CFL mention it on either social media or an article but I don't recall which one.

Yes, the Ft. McMurray game was a "home" game as the majority green and gold jerseys attest to :ohno:

If you want to get technical, that may be true, but in reality the Argos are starting with 5 straight road games, and only play 8 true home games this year. Sorry, I don't feel sorry one bit for the Cats.

Yes we truly are the only team to play 5 road games to start the season, BS technicalities aside.
The Fort McMurray home game was a total joke anyways, surely Rod Black and Drew Edwards wouldn't actually let the facts get in the way of a good story, would they??
Edwards simply planting the excuses seed in case Hamilton looses tonight.

If Glenn had been able to play the entire game, it likely would have gone down to the wire but, unfortunately, he was unable to. I don't see much hope for the Riders, especially with Glenn gone for any length of time as their defence is quite bad.

I keep feeling like the 2015 Roughriders should be falling off the cliff similar to the 1981 Argonauts. Wasn't the latter getting blown out by Week 5 or are there too many differences between the two teams?

paulwoods13
07-27-2015, 01:39 PM
I expected Sask to get blown out this week, so keeping it within 10 surprised me. They do remind me (somewhat) of the 1981 Argos. I would not be surprised if they got crushed this week, especially with Glenn likely out.

It must really suck to have burned through 44 per cent of their home games already and have not a single win. Their chances of a turnaround this season seem extremely slim.

Amidst all of Chamblin’s postgame quotes, that was the kernel which stuck out to me. “We couldn’t keep them out of the endzone.”

So the time has come for Chamblin to relinquish the duty of calling defensive plays and hand it over to Greg Quick, the man whose business card actually says “Defensive Coordinator”. Chamblin's a great football coach but the task of managing the game while running the defense at the same time seems to be too huge at this juncture.
