I am looking for a strong perfomance from the Argos coming off the bye week. I know that most on here are down on this team but there is no reason in my mind that this team can't still contend this season. Yeah, they need to make some tweaks here and there but that is what the bye week is for.

Coming off a bye, and with Ottawa ripe for a bit of a letdown after an emotional game, it'll be disappointing if it's anything other than a good performance.

I know some are concerned about how well Ottawa is playing and they certainly are but they haven't done anything recently that the Argos haven't done this season - beat Saskatchewan twice and win in B.C. The RedBlacks have also had an easier schedule than the Argos so far as AngeloV alluded to in another thread. Ottawa has yet to face Hamilton while the Argos have played the Ticats - with Collaros - three times. Ottawa has also faced B.C. at home and Montreal twice when the Als were in the midst of their struggles.

Ottawa sacked Harris four times in our last game, but the loss of Whiteside will probably slow them down a bit. Our offense should be OK.

It's hard to be optimistic about our D or special teams, though. At this point it would be surprising if anyone other than Waters did the kicking, but he will likely be <100%. That can't help.

IMHO we're quite capable of winning this game, but I see no reason to be confident about it.

If Waters is not 100%, my guess is he won't play. They will likely audition some kickers within the next couple of days.

Yeah, I should have checked the wire first. Apparently yesterday we signed Michael Palardy (http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=111090&draftyear=2014&genpos=K), who was released by the Rams in the final cut-down. I also see that Winnipeg activated Sergio Castillo for today's game despite the fact that Hajrullahu was healthy, so we had probably put in an offer to him.

Acquiring Shawn Lemon is nothing to sneeze at IMO and it could be argued that Lemon is an even better rush end.

We are thinking about going. Been to Fort MacM, and Hamilton twice. Looks like if we want to see the Argos this year, we'll be putting a lot of mileage on!

The Argonauts have shown that no game is an easy game and I have zero faith in our D. Keep checking transactions and Barker seems to think that this is our team going forward. We don't know if his hands are tied or what but I thought he'd attempt to bring in some new bodies on D. I don't see us winning against an improved Ottawa team. Hope I'm wrong.

Ottawa has won 3 in a row and the Argos have lost 3 in a row. This is all set up nicely for an Argos victory, my friend.

The RB looked pretty good on all aspects against the Riders.
Based on the winning streak, they would have to be the favourites.
Maybe a good position for us including Harris especially since pretty much every road game that has been the situation.

Not sure Ottawa looked any better against the Riders on Saturday night than the Argos did. They made lots of mistakes, as Henry Burris pointed out after the game, that they won't be able to get away with against better teams.

I was thinking the same thing about Issac. Maybe the time off will give him a boost.
Don't know if Rolle is quick enough to cover the backs out of the backfield. He's more of a MLB back up for Jones and is a good STer.

I am happy to see Brandon Isaac back. I think he'll play well. That said, maybe Matt Black could play a bigger role and spell Isaac at times? I'm not sure what role Vincent Agnew will play this week, but Matt Black would obviously allow the team to play an international somewhere else when he is in the game at LB or another position. I think Matt Black has played very well this year and he is about the same size as Agnew, who did play at the LB position. I believe Matt Black also played a bit of outside LB last game, though he was listed as the backup safety on the depth chart. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I've thought about a scenario where perhaps they can move Owusu-Ansah to HB and Black can take his field corner spot. Don't know if they think that Owusu-Ansah can be a good HB. but I would think he would be an upgrade there over either Hawkins or Smith.

We'll have to see when Isaac is back if he can still play at a level near where he played at in 2012 or 2013 (Hamilton), or if his consistent level of play is more like what got him released in Saskatchewan last year. With the DC coaching situation plus 2 out of three starting LBs down, our defence has really struggled. Hopefully, Isaac can help turn that trend around.

I guess. Personally, I wouldn't have benched him, but out of the all the receivers, he is the one I would sit if the team just wants to get Spencer in the line-up. Many would say Owens, but to me, he's a team leader, and a team first guy, that does things the right way. I would never sit a healthy Owens.

We need to sit one INT, and that will be Hazelton. Point taken about depleting the receiving corps; I think Herbert is a more useful backup and special teamer than Adjei, but maybe we'll scratch the former.

Probably right about Herbert being the scratch, but there is no rule against dressing 1 more NAT and 1 less INT. I honestly would sit Agnew.

My impression: Owens really seems to be struggling (and, IIRC, has always fumbled the football with some regularity). Watching half of the latest Argos - Ti-Cats game, after the fact, I noticed that Owens' height could be a problem (at this stage of his career?) - he often seemed to be lost / hidden in the traffic.

Of course, if he happens to have a great game, then congratulations.

I am hoping they have a defensive plan to defend that area just behind the LBs, if not Burris will pass for 500 yards tonight.

Also, I hope we also get away from the 3 man rush. We will need to put pressure on Burris. He is now a favourite for MOP.

Both Palardys are playing tonight according to the depth chart.

There’s no relation, although the joke around Argo practice is that they even look alike.

The big difference is Michael’s specialty is kickoffs and punting, while Justin wants to kick only field goals.

The differences don’t stop there.

Michael, 23, is from Florida and played college ball for the Tennessee Volunteers, and was recently released by the St. Louis Rams.

He kicks left-footed.

Justin, 27, is from Truro, N.S., was drafted into the CFL out of St. Mary’s University and played four years for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and part of his rookie year for the Hamilton Ticats.

He kicks right-footed.

They begin their different roles starting Saturday in Ottawa against the Redblacks as emergency replacements for the injured Swayze Waters (http://www.thestar.com/sports/argos/2015/09/22/after-ticats-loss-of-collaros-argos-lose-waters.html), who performed all three kicking chores.

Best game since Week 1 (when, coincidentally, we wore the same unis -- can we please make these our regular road AND home unis? Altho I noticed that the light blue on the helmets -- logo and centre stripe -- is a much different shade than the Cambridge Blue piping on the jerseys and pants).

Great game for the LBs, especially Miles and Jones. I had suggested a few weeks ago they should play Miles at MLB and move Jones to Greenwood's spot -- instead they put Miles in at WILL and he did a superb job. Jones was also really strong all night and Matt Black was a lot better than Agnew at SAM.

The two new kickers were both outstanding. Michael had huge hang time on his punts and got one kickoff down to the three. Justin made every kick including the 50-yarder (!) that made an Ottawa comeback almost impossible.

Good push from the d-line most of the night, and especially in the clutch. O-line was its usual inconsistent self, especially Van Zeyl who is really struggling this year. But they did open some nice holes for Whitaker, who played every series and consequently seemed to get into a rhythm. The receivers dropped at least three catchable passes but also made some nice snags in traffic. I agree Spencer needs to stay in the lineup -- he has a fantastic burst of speed.

Miles is starting at WILL instead of Yurichuk? I will pay closer attention...

...............If the Argos can stay focused, this should be their game.

Miles has a big stop on second and short to stop Ottawa.

I was highly impressed by National Thomas Miles tonight playing his first game, making several timely tackles and an important knockdown like a cage veteran.

Yes, focus from the start and keeping that focus for most of the game helped get the win.
Great to see Miles have a good game in his first start!
I don't know if Hazelton will be out for good, but Spencer is definitely an asset to keep on the game day roster.

I loved how the offense stayed on the field in the first half ...... That was our biggest Defense .......keep Hank off the field .

Let's hope that the rest for the Argos will be an asset as they plan a second way to defeat the redblacks

Totally giddy for the win!😎👍😄

With the injury to Collaros, I think the Argos have a fairly good shot at first and even playing in the Grey Cup game. We also have something no other team has. If Harris is injured, we have Ray as backup.

Elliott took *two* unnecessary roughness penalties on that play?!Based on the replay, I'm not sure I saw cause for one.

We finally had a good start. Then we wobbled a bit after halftime before finishing strong. All in all a very good effort in a hostile environment.

Great job by the linebackers limiting their run game and supporting the pass defence. Nice to see the underrated Greg Jones seal the deal with an interception.

We actually wore our blue jerseys in week 1 and the all whites with white helmet on the road in Regina in week 2. But hey, still 2-0 in them so I think you make a strong case!

A well rested Argo team should be in position to win in Ottawa in 10 days time while the RedBlacks should be exhausted. Odd to see this team lead from start to finish. Burris sure comes off as a crybaby when his team is losing.

Not sure what is happening there. The Cambridge blue stripes on the Oxford blue unis seems to be the same, more intense blue that we see on the white helmets. All the blues seem to be consistent other than the Cambridge Blue stripes on the white pants and sweaters. They look fine but once you've noticed the difference, your eye always notices it.

Right, good catch. It is our best look, IMO. I normally hate the no-contrast look (white pants/jerseys or dark p/j) but there is something about this look that has really grown on me.

I guess I'd want to see the home jersey and pants side by side with road jersey and pants to see if the Cambridge matches or doesn't. The Argos made a point of saying they had gone to the actual pantone for the colours when this uni was introduced, and I was initially surprised by how grey-ish the Cambridge looked compared to the various shades of light blue that had appeared over the years. Regardless, it is terribly wrong to have tones that don't match within the same uni.

From what I remember, I believe that all the Cambridge blues from last year were the same although I have no idea if they match the Pantone number that was touted to be the new standard. The Cambridge blues on the 'A Team' unis all seem to match the helmet Cambridge, although sometimes the small on-shoulder numbers appear 'washed out", which could be a color fading problem or merely the contrast to the black edge piping. That shade of blue is very difficult to ensure it is color-fast on fabrics ( so I am told).
The Cambridge blue on the white unis seems to have been very pale from the beginning. Perhaps the sweater/pants supplier messed up, and when the Argos received them, Braley said "Don't send them back. Negotiate a discount."

Firstly I'm with Paul and I just hope the new jersey's and helmets next season are BANG ON colour wise. It can't be that difficult. Unlike any other team our team is based on Cambridge and Oxford blues. Tradition you jersey designers!!!!!! All they have to do is check the colours of those two universities.

Thrilled that we won and they did indeed make changes need. Miles looked great. Elliott still has to chill and give the refs no need to even consider tossing flags.

Owens return was SWEEET indeed. He still has it.

Just when I think this team is DONE we pop back with a solid win.

Great how the Palardy twins played. Just another funny type story to add into the long history of this team. I hadn't heard about Justin until they started talking about and showing him on the sidelines. When they first signed Michael I thought it was Justin. Now we have both. Justin is coaching kids football a few days back and then nailing a 50 yarder.

Great bounce-back game from the Argos. It puts them back in the conversation in the east.

The next week and a half will be very interesting in the CFL East. After all is said and done, might we see a three-way tie for first place with the Als only a couple of games behind?

Wow! Argos win and suddenly all is right with the team. Lots of love around here for some players and coaches that were under the scope after the last games. The positive knee jerk reactions are better reading though! It is anyone's guess who wins the East now.

There is nothing but more adversity coming at this team in the next month with playing home games in Ottawa and maybe Hamilton. I feel this team could use that as motivation to bond together. Us, against the world.

I agree! Vidal may have unwisely talked himself out of the lineup.

Spencer deserves another start! Made some nice plays and no bad penalties

I agree totally about Spencer and at one point he got up as two Redblacks chirped in his ear and he ignored them. I really like Spencer and we need to see more of him.

The only flaw I saw in Spencer Saturday was he was unable to maintain a block long enough on a running play. Vidal is more physical....not sure how he is going to get back in the lineup. Good to see Milanovich stick with one RB instead of rotating them each series. Whittaker was allowed to find a grove and his performance showed it. Martin Wright has looked ok in his 2 games as well.

I still think the Argos can dress all of them. I love Kackert, but he's not really being used much. I say dress all the receivers. They can easily spell Whitaker with Coombs, or even Gillanders.

Yep, we need Hazleton in the lineup (and Spencer).

To take a bit of a tangent, what's up with Kackert? He looked great his first game back, not as good since, and now he's not called upon much at all.

I think they better get Kackert in there more often. If not rotating him at running back, have him play slot a few times. He can catch the ball and make yards. Why watse a good talent like that.

I'd say he was riding a huge emotional high in his first game and overachieved and/or he picked up a nagging injury. I agree that he hasn't looked good since then, and at this point I'd have no problem taking him out of the lineup.

Sorry, he's not a slot back. He has ok hands for a running back, but catching the ball as a slot back is completely different. Most passes to RB's are releases, screens and swings. They are not in tight coverage at the time. I've noticed Kack has a tough time catching high balls. That won't work out of the slot back position. I would seriously consider playing Coombs more are RB in a set where you can get all 5 INT receivers on at the same time.

Actually Kack made some pretty good plays in the home game (remember what that is?) against Hamilton. He can still play, but at this stage I think Whitaker is a better fit. They IMO, don't need to be dressing 2 INT RB's.

We did well with Spencer and have to go with the status quo.
Kackert should stay and Hazleton has to sit again.

I kinda feel like Hazelton deserves a chance to show that the benching made an impact with him. Unfortunately, that creates the dilemma of having to take Spencer out of the lineup. I'd tend to agree with Angelo that they do not need to dress 2 INT running backs. Coombs could spell Whitaker if it is necessary.

paulwoods13
09-29-2015, 12:18 PM
I was in favour of dressing two RBs, but in view of how they used Whitaker last game I would be OK with sitting him. I think one RB needs to be in on most if not all series, to establish a rhythm.
