View Full Version : TSN has become the NFL network

I've been watching Sportscentre as we speak for the duration of this hour...all Blue Jays...15-20 friggin minutes, and all NFL highlights, from extra points to coin toss highlights in an OT game. EVERY FRIGGIN GAME has highlights, yet zip, nada, nothing for any preview of this afternoons, Toronto Argonauts at Montreal Alouettes game.

They must be 2 shite teams, oh wait, the Argos can tie for first place with a win and the Montreal Alouettes can get sole position of a crossover playoff spot picking up their 6th win, which would be one more than BC and Winnipeg whom are tied for 3rd in the west.....Nothing...has been mentioned so far on TSN 1 HOUR SPORTS NEWS SHOW and it's 8.40 am, barely any NHL has been covered...that'll leave the CFL game with a note at signoff, possible at the 59 minute mark of the one hour show.

8:42 Blue Jay repeat comments from Dutchy and Dirk Hayhurst....are we friggin kidding me.

T-bone don't multi link these comments, they're meant to be seperated to show updates of how bad TSN's coverage of the CFL is until 9am when the next repeated Sportscentre starts.

Gurdeep Ahluwalia...does this goof even know what the CFL is? Wasn't this goof working at Rogers shilling their products including the Bills series, now TSN goes and hires him.

I'm starting to not recognize the difference between Sportscentre and Rogers Sportsnet...oh yah just one, sportsnet is even starting to cover the CFL better in their newscasts than Sportscentre...go figure. Other than Monday's when the panel gives out game balls, TSN's CFL promotion is garbage during their newscasts.

8.48 TSN Fantasy Football Top performers from the NFL of course...did I hear it was brought to you by Coors Light.

More NFL ...Tampa and whomever....Chicago and KC highligts...now 8:50

Another friggin commercial ...who could sit through this shit for an hour. TSN had more info on sportscasts when it was a half hour back when they called it Sportsdesk and didn't repeat highlights and studio panels...TSN and ESPN and Geoffrey Orridge who cares more about developing association with ESPN, probably for his next job, than building the CFL profile can take a hike. They've done a poor job with covering the league and are now hurting it...to the point where any other network including Rogers would probably do a better job covering it.

8:55 Nascar highlights....highlight of the night...you think it would be a play from the important MLB playoffs....

...OF COURSE NOT, because they don't have those rights, so it's ....drum roolll please...AN NFL HIGHLIGHT...How predictable?

This station sucks bullocks.

Hallelulia, Finally on 8:57 a blurb about the Argo - Alouette game and back to this Tampa Bay highlights WTF

Are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the Pittsburgh Steelers of the 70's ore the San Francisco 49'ers of the 80's...it's like their highlights were shown every 10 minutes...and who cares about Twitter. Reynolds is right, baseball is not widely played in Canada compared to how widely it's played in Florida, Texas, and California, where most US born players are from. Heck baseball is so minutely played by kids in Canada compared to the Dominican Republic, yet it's so reported as if I should be personally offended.

By the way the blurb about the Argo-Als game was done during a still shot and was no more than 20 seconds. 20 SECONDS OF A 60 MINUTE SPORTS SHOW DEVOTED TO THE CFL, one of their supposed major properties AND WE STILL HAVE PEOPLE DEFENDING THIS POOR EXCUSE OF A CANADIAN NETWORK...I think they had 20 minutes of the Tampa Buccaneers game highlights alone, or of that fluke Cleveland Browns catch...I'm going to sign off for the day and enjoy the weather. I may catch :20 seconds of the Argo game because if I was a casual fan, that's all the time TSN would've convinced me to tune in for.

Pitiful coverage, pitiful sportsnews, pitiful garbage network. If this is type of ownership we can expect from a Bellmedia property, then the Argos and the league is in trouble.

I record the 2-3am edition of Sportscentre every day and fast forward through it until I see a CFL Story. I didn't see the CFL mentioned at all during that hour today so I missed the 20 seconds of their coverage of today's Argo game. I also noticed that TSN4 will be showing the Leaf game this Friday night so I'll be missing another CFL game on tv since I don't get any of the other TSN channels.

My thoughts exactly about ESPN North. It's an American Network at this point. No real sports shows to watch for CFL fans anymore. You've got ESPN North and useless Rogers 'The Blue Jay Network'

I watch CP 24 for scores on their ticker.

That :20 seconds wasn't an actual story, just a promo for the game that TSN will be showing it. Could John Liu, their Montreal correspondent not have been told to put even a 2-3 minute story together with some quotes from interviews...no wonder the TV ratings are going to be lower. It's a frigging miracle they're as good as they are with such little promotion or marketing from the network...huh, it's like beating a dead horse.

I don't mind baseball, it's a nice sport, different from football and the playoffs are dramatic...with that being said, I'm sick of the cult-like coverage the Jays get because they're Canada's only MLB team. The artificial nationalism attached to the Jays success is nauseating and really has little to do about Canada and baseball. It's to the point where I wouldn't mind seeing them lose because of all the commercialism involved in selling the Blue Jay brand. From stupid corporate jingles to whatever, and I'm actually a Jays fan who was interested in the team before all the bandwagon jumpers started parading after the trade deadline pretending to be lifelong fans.

I guess this is the sad trend of the disposable Selfie generation, no thought process and no individuality, just corporate lackeys jumping on the bandwagon trying to be seen, until the next brand name is shoved down their throats to excess telling them to move along.

Very disappointed in TSN recently also. Even TSN radio in T.O. Now you would think the TSN big shots would understand that people who want to listen to Jays talk all day, would turn in the station that carries the Jays. Which of course they do. So why compete with them. Try covering another sport like say the CFL for a bit, listening to TSN radio in T.O you would not know that the CFL is TSN # 1 sports property. They did such a good job of promoting the CFL over the last 7 or so years, that now they are going to wipe out all their gains. In fact you can see that now with the decline in TV ratings.

I still wonder if the decrease in viewing is because they have put out TSN 1-5 and all those who used to watch all the games can't now as they don't get all the channels.

as for the radio ..... follow the glob and don't have any character

Yeah tsn has been a major disappointment that last couple of years especially this year. Tsn radio is god awful with all sorts of goofs on there trying to act like they are big American network. Rogers I find besides covering the actual game do a better job then the useless tools at tsn. For crying out loud if you need to find a breaking cfl story these days you have to follow the biggest goof ball out there in Arasha maradani at least that goof gives out information and news to the cfl even thoe talks crap about the cfl. You know tsn is not serious about the cfl when they have rod friggin black covering games that last few years. I wish we had a useful cfl commissioner that could talk to tsn about getting there shit together instead we have a useless tool as commissioner who I bet has no clue about how tsn is so mismanaged.

That certainly can't be helping. I imagine that TSN's strategy with that is to force viewers to subscribe to all five feeds.

It was back in May when I first noticed that 5 games were not going to be shown on TSN4 so I wrote them down to remember which games they were. Unfortunately, they keep changing which games are on what channel. This Friday's game will be the 9th game so far that will not be on TSN4 and there are a few more later on. I just looked at the schedule and see there are 24 games that are not on the full TSN network and 2 others in November just list TSN so I assume that they also won't be on the full network either. The Calgary at Hamilton game from 2 weeks ago is still listed as being on TSN4 but I know they only showed the last 5 minutes of the game because they had the Leaf game on instead.

So now one wonders if the hurry to sign the extension was on TSNs side. Get the contract signed then lets reduce the exposure ..... I hope the CFL is getting some of the monies that subscribers are paying to expand their CFL /TSN coverage. So it could at least be a trade off of viewers for dollars .... still not good for the CFL in my opinion ..... but then I'm only a fan.

Yesterday's 6pm edition and today's 2am edition of Sportscentre advertised the Winnipeg at Ottawa game as being on Thursday night even though it's scheduled for Friday night. I've emailed TSN about this so lets see if they correct this.

Might as well be ESPN Sportscenter from Bristol, Connecticut and not TSN Sportscentre from Toronto.

In an hour long sports news show, not one minute, or one second was given to the Conference Championships in the CIS.

No mention, let alone highlights of the exciting Yates Cup with Guelph defeating Western down the road in London. No, highlights of the Dunsmore Cup which saw the defending Vanier Cup champs coached by former CFL coach of the year and Grey Cup winner Danny Maciocia and his University of Montreal Carabins defend their Q crown defeating the Laval Rouge et Or by 2 pts. St FX beat Mt. Allison in the Loney Bowl for the AUAA championship 14-12, and UBC upset Calgary 34-26 in the Hardy Cup to win the CWUAA championship.

All 4 exciting games, and not one second given to any of them, yet they had highlights of Clemson defeating a terrible Syracuse team in the NCAA and even had footage of Rex Ryan and Sammy Watkins visiting the Clemson dressing room before the game. What garbage.

Did TSN even has the CIS football playoffs on the sports ticker...I didn't notice it, shameful. Other than Kara's tight dress and the CFL division Semi-Final previews, this rest of TSN sportscentre was crap.

It's ESPN North at this point. I like NCAA ball but every channel had it yesterday. No CIS and very little CFL. I love that that cocky Rousy had he head taken off but I really don't care. The state of sports tv in Canada is horrible right now. Between Rogers and TSN we have way too many channels with their own agenda's. I tend to switch to CP24 or watch some cool reality stuff.

The CRTC used to ban cable companies from owning TV stations for exactly these reasons that we are talking about. That they'd use their news programs to promote their agenda, and this is now the norm since that's been lifted and cable companies have bought up most, if not all the TV stations in the country. CTV local news, which used to be the hardest and most serious news program even use their newscasts to push programs like the amazing race for example. It's just shameless propoganda, and really takes away from the credibility of their news information programs whether news or sports.

No more critical editorial analysis which is what the great sportscaster in their day did. Guys like Pat Marsden and Dick Beddoes garnered credibility from fans because they gave you an honest opinion and didn't tow the corporate line. It made for great TV. Bobcat tries to pretend to do that as he was in sportscasting when these guys were on, but we've seen his stripes change so much that you know he's towing the company line just by how often he changes his tune. I don't find him sincere at all.

I try not to over-react and try to figure out why things may have happened, but I have to agree with Gill.
His anger seems well placed.
How TSN can claim to be Canada's sports leader and have no mention of the CIS playoffs is unfathomable!

TSN may as well just change their name to ESPN North. I've been sick of them for a few years now. Before all the TSN channels we had game delays because of FRIGGIN golf. Now that there's five channels they all carry US crap most of the time. I don't care about ESPN hour long shows on some bowler who battled cancer and now bowls with his lips. Ok that even made me laugh. I'm so sick of them with their stupid fantasy draft commercials.
