In a move that is sure to thrill Area 51, the Ottawa DumbNames have announced Jaime Elizondo (aka the tennis player) as their offensive coordinator.

As someone commented on the TSN.ca article, was Elizondo under contract for 2016 and will the Argos ask for compensation?

I'm not sure if this should be here or in the CFL board...

I'm sure this will make a lot of folks happy! Question though, was he not still under contract with the Argos?

Elizondo did a good job as receivers coach in Toronto last season. I know that he was much-maligned here in 2011 but I think that some have to consider what he had to work with personnel-wise on offence that season.

Compensation??
I hope the Argonauts don't have to pay too much compensation to Ottawa for taking this stiff off of their hands.
Might have been ok as receivers coach but ran a high school type O when he was the Argos OC.
See yah!!

I like this move, at least from our end. While I'm not a fan of Elizondo, one would think with Burris behind centre instead of Cleo Lemon, Ottawa's offense shouldn't look as bad as it did here in 2010-11.
Hopefully the Argonauts can bring in someone like Jeremaine Copeland as Wr's coach.

This move is viewed as a promotion, Barker and the Argos have a reputation of letting coaches move up. Good for Elizondo who did a good job as receivers coach last season.

Since there is supposedly a moratorium on coaching moves, can we assume that he was not under contract with the Argos any more?

Well, the CFL already ruled that Thorpe couldn't move to Edmonton so I think that meant the moratorium ended?

Wouldn't that mean that the moratorium was still in effect?
If the moratorium ended, the CFL would have no say in any coach moving.

I think the moratorium was only in effect for teams that didn't receive permission to speak to someone on another staff. If Ottawa asked for and received permission from the Argos, it wouldn't apply.

It will be interesting to see which Elizondo shows up in Ottawa - the one who coordinated the bland Argo offence of 2010-11, limited in receiver talent and especially by the Lemon, or the receiver coach who had rookies Gurley, Hazleton, Elliott and Spencer perform so well.
