IMO, the CFL just lost its best and most exciting receiver, who seemed to create a highlight reel almost every game.

The 49ers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/sanfrancisco49ers/profile?team=SF) are signing Canadian Football League wide receiver Eric Rogers to a two-year deal, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported. Rogers will receive a $125,000 signing bonus, $75K in bonuses and a $100K base salary guarantee, making him the NFL's most expensive CFL signing since the Dolphins (http://www.nfl.com/teams/miamidolphins/profile?team=MIA) signed defensive end Cameron Wake (http://www.nfl.com/player/cameronwake/2506314/profile) from the British Columbia Lions (http://www.nfl.com/teams/detroitlions/profile?team=DET). Rogers played college ball at Cal Lutheran before signing a contract with the Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) in 2013 as an undrafted free agent. Rogers did not make the roster and, following a nine-game stint with the Portland Thunder of the Arena Football League, was signed by the Calgary Stampeders in 2014. His performance in the 2014 postseason led Calgary to a Grey Cup victory and the wideout led the league in 2015 with 1,448 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcduyYJRnvA).

The bonus money means they really like him. What was always surprising to me was why he got cut by Ottawa in 2014 when they had the worst receiving core in the League.

Who would have thought that it would be Rogers rather than Jeff Fuller that NFL teams would be salivating over when the 2015 CFL season began?

What was always surprising to me was why he got cut by Ottawa in 2014 when they had the worst receiving core in the League. Not that this is fact in this case, but there have been situations where players just showed up to camp without any intention of wanting to play on the team. Maybe they wanted to workout in a camp before getting a believed shot at attending an NFL camp. I remember reading Paul's book (Bouncing Back) where he mentions that Terry Greer was told by the LA Rams to purposely not perform and get cut by the Argos in 1981, so that they could sign him. To his credit, he didn't go for it, as he realized that it might have affected his carear had the Rams not followed through and put him on the roster. He eventually played in the NFL and got a Super Bowl ring to go along with his Grey Cup ring for his pro career.

I'm not saying that this was the case with Rogers, but it does make you wonder as that Ottawa receiving corps in 2014 was not very good at all.

Teams cut good and potentially good players all the time. Pfeffer was originally with Ottawa, deemed not good enough, then went to the Argos, played relatively well and once the Argos cut him, Ottawa signed him pretty quickly. Montreal let Owens go for pretty much nothing. Brett Smith was with the Argonauts and showed well I suppose in Regina, personally I don't think Smith is very good and has a poor arm and mechanics, but he did play well. Chris Gainey was cut my Montreal and became the league's top returner in BC. Etc etc.

Nice Rogers story on MMQB. Good PR for the CFL down south too.

Didn't Rogers get cut by the Ottawa RedBlacks before Calgary picked him up?

IIRC, Rogers was signed by Ottawa but didn't make it to training camp with them in 2014. The article missed that.
