Not surprising at all. This move has been heavily speculated from the day Chick was released.

Makes sense. With Norwood recovery from a knee injury and Justin Hickman unlikely to be retained, Hamilton had to find some experience....perhaps Laurent is moving on as well?

The question is whether at 33 Chick is starting to slow down. If he is still able to perform near his top level, already formidable D-Line will be even better.

Deal allegedy worth around $150K. That money would have been better spent on trying to keep Laurent.

Norwood uncertain with injury issue, and why is Hickman unlikely to be retained?

Still though, Chick is better than both those good DEs IMO, and I believe he still has some gas in the tank.

The Ticats might lose Laurent to FA but i wouldn't count on that; plus they have lots of depth at DT to weather that i think - Blucke (also a FA) could return to form where he was their D player of the year, and they have lots of NI depth/young guys around at DT to help cushion the loss of Laurent

“There were zero negotiations,’’ Chick said Thursday from Hamilton. “There was one nice-guy conversation about how the family was and that kind of stuff. Basically it was they weren’t going to honour what was promised to you and here’s what you can play for. If not, we’re going to cut you.’’

Chick said that was the last contact that he had with the Riders regarding his contract.

“We understand the football business and how a new guy wants to have his name on everything,’’ said Chick, who shared in the Riders’ 2007 and 2013 Grey Cup championships. “That’s the way the business side goes … my wife and weren’t surprised. Being in football as long as we have, you know that those things come along.’’
