Not the first time someone has stated Quebec is a no go and likewise not the first time the League has refuted the speculation. I really wish the NHL would stop this expansion talk nonsense and start looking into relocation.

The NHL needs more teams as much as Donald Trump needs more self-esteem.

The same could be said about most Professional Leagues.

I guess they want in before the Raiders move there, or else nobody would care.

Still a bad move no matter what, but it'll be much worse if/when the NFL comes to town.

The Coyotes have moved their farm team to Tucson for the upcoming season.

I love Las Vegas, but folks I'm not there to watch hockey! I mean I realize that a large element of Vegas is also the entertainment and I've seen some good shows there, but I'd rather be trying my hand at bingo at the Gold Coast or playing slots downtown at the Golden Gate or something like that.

TBH I really think this is all about the NHL getting there first, and it also helped that Foley and the Maloofs (not sure why the NHL would want them involved after the Sacramento Kings issues) seem to be willing to pay $500 million to join the club.

I can see that with the NFL and the Raiders inching closer to Las Vegas.

Nighthawk sounds cool but the actual bird is not a true hawk and an insect eater. We had dozens around here last year. Nighthawks are in the Nightjar family and hunt between dusk and dawn. Good name for a Vegas team I guess. They really are a cool looking bird but not really a tough one.

Who knows what a Red Hawk is? There is Red Tailed and Red Shouldered. If I'm naming a team after a bird it would be an actual tough bird. Los Vegas Shrikes. Coolest bird that is smaller then a robin but it's a killer songbird that impales it's prey on a thorn to eat or save for later. I've been a long time bird guy.

The red tailed hawk has an awesome call. Anytime their's an eagle or bird of prey in movies they always use the call. The Montreal Alouettes do as well for some reason - pretty sure that the Skylark/Alouette is a song bird lol.

Miami University uses the Redhawks as their nickname; prior to the name change they were known as the Redskins IIRC.

Meh

Totally agree with the "Meh".

Why is this being reported by CFL News btw?

The National Lacrosse League's Rochester Nighthawks can't be happy that their name is being considered.

As a Chicago Blackhawks fan, I can't like any of the choices.

I'm shocked that they aren't considering the name Rough Riders/Roughriders.

And what about Tigers?
Are there any teams in professional or college sports that use the name Tigers?
I don't think so.

I would have preferred Silver Knights since Nevada is called the Silver State.

Also, very disappointed with they're called the Vegas Golden Knights as opposed to Las Vegas...For this team to have sucess it really needs to cater to the local market. Vegas is too informal and it's what out of towners refer to the city as.

Understand Foley paid 500 million for the team but it's what his customers beyond the 16K STHs for the honeymoon period will pay. If the Raiders arrive, they've alresdy trademarked Las Vegas Raiders. It's best to do it right.

Vegas Golden Knights - an obvious play on the dream of gamblers - winning the gold on a Las Vegas night of gambling.
