Former Argo and Dallas Cowboy offensive tackle and TSN sportscaster will be a very well-deseved inductee into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame on October 17th.

Burlington Sport Alliance would like to congratulate current Burlington Sports Hall of Fame Member (2015) Chris Schultz on being inducted into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame this upcoming October 17th, 2016!
The 55-year-old Burlington, Ont., native was a natural offensive lineman, possessing a 6-foot-7 frame that attracted the Dallas Cowboys, who drafted him in the seventh round in 1983. A graduate of Aldershot High School, Schultz settled into the CFL with the Argos, and became one of the one of the most dominating linemen in the league, with all-star berths in 1987-88. He was selected to the Argos all-time team in 2007. Schultz is now a commentator on TSN’s CFL broadcasts, and drops NFL predictions on his own show, Risky Business.

Early years

After attending Aldershot High School (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aldershot_High_School) in Burlington, Ontario (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burlington,_Ontario), Schultz played college football (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_football) in the United States (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) at the University of Arizona (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Arizona).
He was recruited by Arizona head coach Tony Mason (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Mason_(American_football)) as a defensive tackle (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defensive_tackle), where he played his first three years, until being converted to an offensive tackle (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offensive_tackle) as a senior.
Professional career

Dallas Cowboys

Schultz was drafted (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_Draft) in the seventh round (189th overall) of the 1983 NFL Draft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_NFL_Draft) by the Dallas Cowboys (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallas_Cowboys). On August 21, 1984 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_NFL_season), he was placed on the injured reserve list (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Injured_reserve_list).[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Schultz#cite_note-1)
After only playing in 5 games with no starts during his first two years, in 1985 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985_NFL_season), Phil Pozderac (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Pozderac) injured his knee during the third game of the season, which opened the door for Schultz to start the next 3 games at left tackle (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_tackle), only to return to a backup role when Pozderac was healthy. He eventually regained the starting position from the thirteenth game until the playoffs, but struggled mightily while playing against the Los Angeles Rams (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_Rams).[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Schultz#cite_note-2) He was waived on August 26, 1986 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_NFL_season).[3] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Schultz#cite_note-3)
Toronto Argonauts (CFL)

In 1986 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_CFL_season), Schultz returned to Canada to play for the Toronto Argonauts (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto_Argonauts) of the Canadian Football League (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Football_League), who owned his rights after drafting him in the first round of the 1982 CFL Draft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1982_CFL_Draft). He played in 124 games for the Argos over his nine-year career.[4] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Schultz#cite_note-Pick_of_the_Argos_crop-4) Schultz was named a CFL All-Star twice (1987 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987_CFL_season#1987_CFL_All-Stars), 1988 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1988_CFL_season#1988_CFL_All-Stars)) and was a member of the 1991 Grey Cup championship (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/79th_Grey_Cup) team.
In 2007, he was named to the Argos' All-time team.
Personal life

Schultz is currently a CFL football sportscaster (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sportscaster) on The Sports Network (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sports_Network). He also co-hosts a weekly one-hour sports radio program on TSN 1050 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TSN_1050) in Toronto, called Football Sunday with Mike Hogan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Hogan_(sportscaster)) during the CFL and NFL seasons. He is also the NFL Insider for TSN (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sports_Network).
