Should Argos Sign Just Released Eric Norwood?

The Tiger-Cats have just released defensive end Eric Norwood, a 2014 East Division All-Star who is only 27. Should the Argos pursue him



It appears more changes have come to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ defensive line, as the team has released defensive end Eric Norwood according to a report by TSN’s Matthew Scianitti.
The 27-year-old South Carolina graduate spent three seasons with the Ticats, emerging as one of the league’s premier pass-rushers. Last season he recorded seven sacks despite being limited by a season-ending knee injury, while in 2014 he was among league leaders with 13 sacks in 15 games.

His release and whether the Argos should consider sign him have been affected by injuries and salary. Working in his favour is his age and talent as a rush end.



But Norwood battled injuries last season, playing in just 10 games, and suffered a serious knee injury in the East semi-final win over Toronto. He would not have been ready for training camp and would have likely missed – optimistically – at least half the season. Norwood was on his second CFL contract and was thought to be making in neighbourhood of $90,000 per season.

Sucks for him. Does he get any kind of injury settlement or is he just SOL?

Norwood is a bit younger, but at their CFL bests, IMO Chick was far superior an all-around DE; Norwood was a good edge rusher, Chick a very good pass rusher but more a disruptive force - stronger, better against the run; big & strong enough to play some DT or stunt and go up the middle; I believe he still has some gas in the tank and will prove it in Hamilton this season. Norwood a question mark coming off injury and knee recovery can be iffy.

I basically agree but I think Jones wanted to trim salary and remould the team.
