Canada is doing very well at the IIHF World Championships. They currently are tied for first (with Finland) in their group with a 6-0-0-0 record, while outscoring their opponents 26-4. Their first tough test comes Tuesday against Finland. The Czechs (4-1-1-0) and Russians (5 -0-0-1) are tied for first in the other group.

As usual Canada takes the difficult route into the playoffs by losing to Finland today 4-0.



After 16 straight wins at the World Hockey Championships, Canada lost a game. The 4-0 shutout loss came at the hands of Finland, who are now the only undefeated team in the tournament at 7-0. ...
It wasn’t as bad as the scoreboard suggests, as Canada actually outshot Finland 21-19 in the game, but couldn’t get one past 27-year-old netminder Mikko Koskinen. In the other crease, it was a forgettable start for Edmonton Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot, who allowed four goals on just 19 shots. ...Canada will put this game behind them and now turn their attention to their quarterfinal matchup against Sweden. Sweden finished third in Group A with a 3-2-0-2 record. You can catch that game Thursday morning at 10:15 a.m. on TSN.

Canada gets a chance for revenge against Finland in the IIHF finals after losing to the Finnish in the round robin part of the tournment.



Canada reached a world championship final against Finland by beating the United States 4-3 thanks to Ryan Ellis (http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/nationwide/drivers/3153)' goal early in the third period of a pulsating match on Saturday. The Finns won 3-1 as they overcame hosts Russia in the other semi-final just as they did at the Sochi Olympics two years ago.Bill Peters' Canada side got off to a fine start as they moved into a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period following goals from Brendan Gallagher (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/5120/)and Brad Marchand (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/4351/).
But they were stunned when the Americans turned the match around inside seven second-period minutes as Auston Matthews scored on the powerplay before goals from David Warsofsky (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/4960/) and Tyler Motte put the U.S. 3-2 in front. Canada went into the final period level, though, after Derick Brassard (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/3987/) scored on the powerplay.
The defending champions took the lead through Ellis' fierce slapshot early in the third period and never looked back as they moved into the showpiece match.
