Saddened by the announcement this morning that Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip has brain cancer. If there is a silver lining, he feels well enough to tour with the band this summer, so we'll have a last chance to share a moment with him and other fans. I was a big fan in the late 80s and 90s but have to admit I lost touch with them and don't know about their releases after that. Would be curious to hear anyone's favourite memories of him and the band.

What a horrible thing to happen, i watching it unfold in front of my eyes right now with my father.

Not a big fan of the Hip, but it's sad to have this happen to him.

In my younger, more impressionable days I had a chance to meet Gord and one little incident always stuck with me. He asked a fan if she enjoyed the concert and she said, yeah, but it was loud. So he asked her if she was wearing ear plugs and she said no. He replied, "You don't wear ear plugs? I do. I thought everybody did."

It was such a great moment for me to witness because it punctured the image of the rock and roll leading man and reminded me that ultimately putting one's own needs came first before trying to look or act cool. He's just such a down to earth guy and it looks like he plans to wring every last drop out of life. Got to respect that.

First off, sorry to hear about your father argonaut11xx. I imagine that this cannot be an easy time for you or your family.

Bummer news about Downie. At least it looks like they'll get another tour in the books.

Just watched Global News, and Dr Das, the surgeon, and Dr Perry, the cancer doctor who are dealing with Gord Downey, are the same Dr's who have been helping my Dad.

I'd suggest that performing at the Grey Cup would be a miracle, but like we have been told, short term goals..for my family its to make it to fathers day, Hopefully for Gord its to perform the planned summer tour. Then he can make another goal.

Argo57, thank you for the kind words.

Still shaking my head over this as Tragically Hip were my all-time favourite Canadian group. I'd also love to see them play at the Grey Cup - a fitting tribute for a group whose music so reflected Canadian sensibilities.

Sorry to hear about argonaut11xx's dad, and about Gord Downie. That's how my mom died. Not fun at all.

F*** cancer.
