Second game of the Canada Day doubleheader.

The Stampeders won easily 36-22. I hope, for the sake of WPG fans (with whom I have no quarrel), that it is simply a matter of the team needing to gel.

The Bombers suck. Walters, McManus and Goveia haven't found enough talent. O'Shea is struggling as a Head Coach. The Defence is soft, which I still don't understand how Bombers fans or anyone else would've thought any different due to Richie Hall being the DC. LaPo is very conservative early on and has been that way since his later days in Saskatchewan. Drew Willy is not good enough IMO, when the pressure is on he's shell shocked and gets happy feet, also inaccurate on deep throws. Bombers gave $400k to an unproven QB; they deserve what's happening right now. Willy is the new King of garbage time.

Outside of QB - I disagree on the talent part - IMO they have as much talent on average as most teams in the league:

Managed to sign Westerman - one of the best pass rushers in the league; Bass was a good find at linebacker; Chris Randle is IMO one of the best D-backfielders in the entire league; signed proven offensive talent in Andrew Harris and Dressler this off-season; also added vet Shologan on D; some promising young O-linemen have been acquired in the draft (all of Chung, Goosen & Couture might end up being very solid CFL linemen with a bit more experience.

The main problem there - again outside of a weak/not good enough starting QB - is predictable, stale, unimaginative coaching - LaPo as dull and same-old standard as it gets on offence; and Richie Hall likes a safe, soft defence (and both show big favortism to American players) -

Walters & O'Shea hired these guys - they're getting what they deserve there.

I will repeat something I said on Twitter last night and that is that there is a real culture of losing that is ingrained in Winnipeg and when you have such a culture, it can quickly infect even good players. The Bombers of today remind me very much of the Argos of the 1972-81 era.
