The Argos do not win this game, but you do get to see the 'run & shoot' in action. It really is too bad that the 50-16 Argo win from 1983 seems to be lost to the world.

This game shows the Run and Shoot in peak form. There are a couple of drives in particular (late in the game when trying to come back) where we move the ball at an incredible pace, with tons of motion.

The 1983 Labour Day game is indeed lost forever, it appears. That was Carl Brazley's debut, with a pick-six.

I believe that Brazley was actually in the lineup for the game against the Lions the week before. I believe he is returning kicks in the playlist that you posted of that particular game.

That quarterback reminds me of Randall Cunningham a little bit. How long did he play for?

That quarterback reminds me of Randall Cunningham a little bit. How long did he play for? Are you talking about Condredge Holloway? He played for around ten years; 1977-1987, but injuries hampered him later on. He was a dynamic, mobile quarterback with a good arm and smarts. He was also a tremendous leader on and off the field who was loved by his teammates. Randall Cunningham owes Condredge alot for blazing a trail for him.

Condredge Holloway is in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. He played for Ottawa from 1975 to 1980, Toronto from 1981 to 1986 and one final season in B.C. (1987). Some country singer - Kenny Chesney, I think - made a documentary of Holloway recently focusing on his time as QB for the University of Tennessee. I believe that it has aired numerous times on ESPN. Holloway is my favourite Argos player of all-time.

Doh! The farther I get from the book project, the more I forget! It was Brazley's debut before me in person, at least.

Great documentary. It's title is the color Orange, the Condredge Holloway story.

My all time favourite football player.

We had some GREAT players in those days and 82 was an excited year. My highlight was beating Edmonton during the season at CNE. The pissing rain at the Grey Cup was another story. Both Holloway and Brazley were terrific guys to watch. Holloway ended up with pretty bad knees.

That game marked the first of a few games where the fans poured onto the field after the final gun. It had been a very long time since they had beaten the Shmoes.

I remember the feeling in the crowd that day was like winning a playoff game. The Eskimo's were like the Evil Empire yet way too many of their players had tons of respect throughout the league except maybe in Calgary. A team like that will never be seen again.

I doubt we will see a team win 5 Grey Cups in a row that is for sure.

I'll have to check it out. Dude looks like he was a great player. In his prime he was a guy you wanted running your offence and your huddle. I saw him play growing up in Ottawa in the 1970s and then in Toronto when I moved here in 1978. He lived in Ottawa in the winter and I met him when I was 10 in 1977 at a charity basketball game with the Rough Riders vs. The RCMP. Very nice guy too. One of my all time favorite players.

At the risk of shameless self-promotion, there is a ton about the legendary Condredge Holloway (arguably greatest QB in Argo history, factoring in longevity) in my book about the 1981-83 Boatmen. He was a class act on and off the field, as I found out first hand when I interviewed him in his office at U of Tennessee. Info on the book is in my sig for anyone still interested. (I realize most who would be have likely already found it.)

I was sitting in Section 43 Row 50 for that game (what a memory) what a great night, I remember the sound of the fans banging on the seats near the end of the game.
Everyone realized we were onto something special.

Even though I had absolutely zero in common with him as a ball player (for starters, he could run, I couldn't), he is the reason I wanted to play QB growing up.

KC,

In conjunction with writing his book, Paul had also posted playlists of several games. I'm providing you the link to the 1982 Eastern Final playlist and the 1983 Eastern Final playlist.

1982 Eastern Final (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlqrWEBKHnC4ETgUxSuxvpxQ20nNtPIgC)

1983 Eastern Final (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAA25DF1AD746A892)

These are perhaps two of Holloway's finest games in an Argo uniform.

Many thanks. Looking forward to watching those.

You won't see it as much in the '83 game, but pay close attention in the '82 game to the chemistry that Holloway has with receiver #10 Terry Greer. He had one of the most spectacular seasons by a receiver in 1983 with over 2000 yards. The Ticats do a good job of neutralizing him in the '83 game, but Greer does a number on Ottawa's DB Carl Brazley in the '82 game. Brazley himself comes over to Toronto in '83 and becomes an all-time Argo.
