Anybody going?
Anybody watching on TV?
Anybody care?
Does anyone here pay attention to U Sports football?

Calgary Dinos vs. Laval Rouge et Or (again) in case anyone is unsure.

Would like to go but I have to work. Not at all happy to see Laval back but hopefully Calgary will take them apart.

We're going this year. Too close and convenient not to attend.

One of the best football games we ever attended was in BC in 2011. McMaster vs Laval. Had the pleasure to watch the game with a McMaster alumni named Russ Jackson, too.

I've gone to every Vanier Cup game played in Ontario since 1989. That's 20 games in total with 17 at SkyDome and 3 at Ivor Wynne Stadium. If the game was played last week or next week, I would go but I'm too busy attending Grey Cup events to go this weekend.

I'll be at the CFLFFC thing at Shoeless, but hopefully they have it on the tube. It is however getting a little tiresome seeing the same teams year after year winning their leagues. Some schools need to re-evaluate whether or not they take U-Sports seriously and either go as hard at the top recruits as the successful schools, or get out.

I hear ya.

Try being a University of Toronto alumnus trying to support your alma mater in football.
It ain't easy being (Varsity) blue.

Yeah - that Mac/Laval Vanier was one of the greatest football games I've ever seen.

There's been some really great CIS play-offs and Vaniers in the past number of years.

This season's Vanier & GC = one of the greatest 1-2 punch of big Canadian football games ever IMO - 2 outstanding, exciting and close down to the wire games !

The Ticats, CIS and the CFL have to put an effort into selling this game like it matters. They pretty much do jack shite. It's in the CFL's interest to have a strong CIS.

Otherwise just put it with the GC and make it just another GC sideshow.

Panda game in Ottawa - GGs vs. Ravens - drew 20K + fans at Lansdowne stadium; sure, it's a traditional rivalry with much history, and a lot of students attend, but it shows support & respect for a big CIS game.

That pathetic attendance in Hamilton last Saturday should IMO have them booted from hosting the Vanier again for a long, long time = you had your chance and you failed & $ucked; so time to move on to another city & stadium that might respond better. NO way Ottawa would have had that few in the stands. I think THF in Hamilton got awarded the Vanier 2 years in a row though (?) = huge mistake.

They did. And it will be a huge success

???

Just bizzarre. Did you not see TV coverage of the Vanier last Saturday? - they claimed to have sold 10 K tickets but the "crowd" in the stands looked more like a couple of thousand at best = embarrassing. Maybe they hope Mac will make it to the game next year and they'll get 5 K in the stands? Totally unacceptable IMO. Come down to the Panda game at Lansdowne next year maybe to grab a clue. ;o)

Hopefully somehow TSN can get the rights back from the evil sports network, and once again tie the Vanier to the Grey Cup.

That really is the key. The CIS hitching their wagon to Rogers was not a good move.

Why do you think it will be successful next year when it wasn't successful this year?

Well I went to the game and it was just as exciting as the Grey. Too bad the attendance was low. They said about 8200 tickets were sold but probably 5000 attended.
At first one wondered if Laval would come back from the 14-0 lead that the Dinos had in the first quarter ..... Of course they did...and the lead kept changing in the 4 th ..... But give the game another minute, the Dinos may have been the Vanier
Cup champs.

I hope that the Hamilton organizing group can learn from their mistakes. ..... Laval fans found no Friday night or pre game fan festivities. .... Too bad .... Knowing how they tailgate, I was disappointed as well that we couldn't step up to the plate.

The organizing group will be awarded another $100,000 next year to help .... I can't remember where I read this ... I will try and find it .
Also, next year in the bowl game prior to the Vanier, the OUA team is playing the AUS team. So , there is high probability that an OUA team will be in the Vanier .... And Hamilton is rather central for OUA fans. Good for attendance.

Usports ( new CIS) should find a better TV partner .... Show some games during the season , and make them national. When one can remember some of the names of the Canadian players, it allows the Vanier to be more interesting.

Great game, showed up at 1 pm and asked where the box office was to get a ticket. I was given a complimentary free ticket by a member of the security team and heard the first TD scored as I was walking into the stadium. This was a great game played by great Canadian players. I wonder how many CFL scouts were there, and I wonder who was representing the Argos organization at the game.

Crowd may not have been big, but the fans that were there were interested. Unfortunately my PVR did not record the whole game as I would have been interested to see the finish again. It deserved a bigger crowd for what I think will probably be the best college/University game played in North America this year, but get no attention from even local media.

The CIS/CIAU, which tells you how far I go should be ashamed of themselves for not just how they don't market this game and their sports, but for now getting rid of the "Canadian" in their acronym and stupidly calling it "U" Sports. That is ridiculous. It's as if somehow getting rid of the "C" in CIS will give them more cred...what rubbish. Some idiot TV exec from Sportsnet, who've been calling their minimal CIS coverage "Sportsnet U" for years must have had a hand in this awful decision.

I read a tweet that afternoon from a media member which indicated that most CFL teams were represented at that game, including the Argos. I believe Jim Barker himself scouted that game.
