Call me weird but I like them, never got my hands on one. I was curious if anyone knew a place that might still have some? The interweb has been of no luck so far.

Cheers.

Too bad you missed the charity sales they had in Markham and Richmond Hill. I definitely saw some of these jerseys there. I also have seen them at Reebok outlet stores, but that was over a year ago.

I too saw these at Reebok outlet stores in the summer. Can confirm Milton one had one. Might want to try SVP Sports on Steeles. They used to have all the other signature jerseys for sale for like only $9.99 or something.

Thanks for the reply guys.

Where could I find a Reebok outlet store close to east end of Toronto? Also will go and look at SVP now that's it been mentioned.

I like the jersey but there was an atrocious production problem. They have nameplates that are way too big and ruin part of the design. I went to take mine off to reduce it to the proper size, only to discover it was not sewn, but glued, and the glue left residue underneath. So the problem can't be fixed.

The nameplate was the first thing I noticed, looked like a homemade job TBH.
The third jersey experiment league wide was highly forgettable.

I'm having a name plate issue with a Nike NFL jersey right now. Bought it last year, like new but recently the name plate, which is glued has started to come undone.

Anyone have any solutions to this?

Fair point. Sadly not til the summer. No time, moving to northwestern Ontario this week for next six months.

I guess I can't wear the Gronk jersey when I watch the Pats in the Superbowl this year. I'll have to dust off my old Starter 1997-8 Ben Coats jersey instead.

I'm kind of picky and always prefer sewn on numbers and nameplate, good luck with your journey Boris.

As do I but this was a new thing when I ordered it. The numbers and name plate are all cut out but not sewn. Everything was glued. In fact one jersey has real stitching on the edges of the numbers but is not stitched to the jersey just glued on. Did not know that was the case when I bought them online via nflstore.

I think that's how the NFL does all their jerseys now.

The new Adidas Argos jersey I just got seems to be the same deal.

Sport Chek Oshawa had at least two on their clearance rack Boxing Day week. Haven't been back since.

The picture shows the badly botched nameplate. Way too long, cuts into the piping at the shoulders. Dumb!

I have this jersey too. It's probably the only football jersey that actually looks good blank.

I have a XL Ray everything professionally sewn on. Including both layers of the numbers. Willing to sell it or do a trade with you! I also have a couple game used jerseys I'm looking to sell as well!

Speaking of old jersey repairs - my circa 91 Argos jersey (by Starter) has the Argo A on both the shoulders fading away (washed too many times?) - iron on type things maybe, and are these reparable (a sport shop could iron on new ones or maybe sew on new & better ones ?) ?

It would be pretty hard to find new ones that could be sewn on over top. I doubt the patches were ever for sale. And of course it's 25 years since then so even if they were, who would still have them? I think the game-worns also had hot-pressed logos, not sewn-on, back then. You might be able to cut out new ones yourself but it would be tricky to match them precisely for shape and colour. Better bet to look for a replacement jersey on eBay?

Million dollar question is how do you preserve your jerseys, Paul? I'm waiting for when you put those up on eBay ;)

Never wash them, hardly ever wear them.

Thanks Paul - I guess it would be difficult to find an exact replacement A - either to be pressed or sewn on.

Guess I'll have to live with it as an old as is relic - and never wash it again. ;o)

I did find an old replica Argo jersey - circa early 80s (and made by Darby - Sportswear Ontario = ?) - it was hanging in a small used sports equipment store in an older part of Ottawa a few years back. It features the Argo boat logo on the shoulders - and they are the pressed on kind too, but they have held up pretty well.

Can't tell from the picture but it has the boat logo on both sleeves. Very cool jersey.

One easy thing to do is to wear a shirt underneath so that you don't have to wash the jersey.

The one I has features the boat logo on the shoulders.

And another jersey/logo question for an Argo historian like yourself: we've talked here about the different versions of the Argo boat logo - the older one (i think) has more detail, and features a large Argos on the sail, a "Pull Together" banner on top, and Toronto written on the wave under the boat = best sports logo of all time (IMHO ;o)) A subsequent Argo boat logo has less detail / is more cartoonish and just has the Argo A on the sail and no other writing - that is the version I have on my Argo replica jersey, and that is the one featured on some Argo helmets and jersies (shoulder or sleeves - both have been used i think?) circa 80s.

But when did the original Argo boat logo first come out and get used; and was it ever on the jersey or helmet of the Argo uniforms (I recall the basic Argo A on some old helmets); and if it was never used there - why not ?

Dry clean if neccessary. Comes back still in perfect shape, no wear on any logos, etc.

According to the team itself, the logo you refer to as the original was actually the second to use a boat. The very old-looking ARC (Argonaut Rowing Club) logo was the first. That one was never used on helmets or jerseys, nor was the one you and I both remember from the 1960s. It may have been the team's primary logo starting in 1956, but the helmets usually had a big A on them, and no team wore logos on jerseys back then. BUT, there was at least one year (or partial year) around 1965 when the team work a simplified, cartoon-ish version of the 1960s boat logo on the helmet. I've caught glimpses of this in old film footage, including at least one scene in the CFL Traditions videos the league produced. It's an ugly version that IMO didn't work well on the helmets.

This webpage has history of logos and uniforms but has some errors in it, including the suggestion that the famous boat logo began in 1976. It may have been created in 1976 but did not appear on helmets until 1977.
